Why do people start 0.01 auctions if they're just going to artificially inflate the price using smurf accounts?

Or is there another reason for one name to show up in the bidding list increasing the bid by $1 each time?

I realise you don't get to see automatic bids, so maybe someone out there is bidding manually, but what's the point? If I'm willing to pay $50 on an item MAX, and you're willing to pay $55 MAX, way sit on Ebay bidding one dollar manually each time ebay bids for me?

I really don't understand what's going on >.<

I'll try try to explain. Lets say my max is 50, for every bid lower than mine it'll go up $1, so lets so you you put in 37, they will cancel your bid out with $38, you put in 40, my bid cancels it out with 41.

As for the .01, it's just their way of doing things, people are attracted to small prices, they see an xbox360 for a penny their gunna put a bid on it, other people see it soon their gunna fight over what they think is a deal but soon enough the price goes up. It's just a way of attracting people.

Thanks Spikez, I understand that now.

So after seeing 19 lines of the same bidder, topped by someone else, the last bid in that line was the previous bidder's MAX?

Lets pretend that bidder is bidder A, he has a good max bid on it, someone(s) bids on it that 19 times and he's at the end of the bidding line that's not necessarily his max bid, it'll go up one dollar untill someone goes over his bid. So if someone bids 49 (his is 50) it'll still say he's in the lead and the auction bid is now at 50. now if someone bids anything over $50, even $50.01 he's no longer high bidder and loses unless he comes back and enters another high bid before the auction time is up.

Now as for the people who enter their bids that don't top the 50, bidder B will get a message saying he/she's been outbid by bidder A and their max bid will show up in the list.

Some people just sit back and try to snipe, bidding a dollar at a time, becasue they are cheap. Or possibly new to ebay.

I know for a fact though that many people on ebay use two accounts. My buddie will buy his own shit he listed and just pay the fees if he isnt going to get what he wants.

These two things will always happen on ebay, its the nature of the beast, and people are inherintly cheap.

The real scams to watch for is the auctions the have bidders kept private. I can understand if say someone is bidding on a sex doll or something, but for a regualr auction, i think the hidden bidder things is pure scam.
