Alright Wii owners, the CycloWiz is real, is upgradeable via DVD, and is now shipping.
http://www.teamcyclops.com/
I think I might give this chip a shot, currently $39.99 US.
Anyone else thinking about it?

my wiinja is already on its way across the atlantic. I prefer the wired solution, so I can pull it off if it doesnt work in future

How much was the Wiinja?
--edit--
Hmm how do they work that one out?? Wiinja just a PIC chip with code in it (costs next to nothing to make) at £29.99 and Cyclowiz looks more professional and upgradable £29.99
For the price I think I would go with the Cyclowiz...

Wiinja Mod Knocked for Six by Wii Hardware Design 'D2B'
There are reports circulating via the Official Wiinja forums that there PIC based mod is not working on all Wii consoles. Wii units will either have a GC2-DMS chip or GC2-D2B chip, the latter hardware chip renders the Wiinja useless. Currently there is no external way of checking whether or not a Wii has which of the mentioned chipsets.
With luck this is bullshit , and some noob installed it wrong!

Did u see the image attached to that post. It looks like the guy had only 3 wires soldered. Of course Maxconsole had to go all the way and say "several reports of wiinja not working", but truth this one guy had an issue and they did a rough translation of the post. Looks like MC is hell bent on promoting the cyclowiz and making the other mods look like shit

Hey guys
Isn't the wiikey supposed to be the best modchip, i hear it comes out on 7 feb
It can boot imported wii/gc original/backups with no swap
It has all the other features of the wiinja and cyclowiz, and fully upgradable via dvd
But something i read about the cyclowiz, it has stealth even when the chip is enabled, do you know if this feature is in the wiinja and wiikey?
Wiikey has only 4 solder points, and easy to install and replace, i got my money on that

Also i read that the cyclowiz can play homebrew in GC mode, does that mean it can play wii and GC homebrew, but only from GC mode?
Will you be able to use these modchips for playing cracked VC games?

I just found the following on dcemu about the wiikey
UPDATE: The Update disc will likely be formatted for Gamecube and will launch in GC mode. The app will send commands to the chip to flash it with the updated code. Since the chip 'listens' and reacts to these commands, it also means Nintendo can possibly detect if you have a chip like this (WiiKey) installed in your console.
Is that the same way the cyclowiz works on the upgrade via disc side? then does that really mean Nintendo can detect that you have a chip? But then surely once Nintendo have an update firmware, you could reflash it via the modchip makers upgrade, right?
Sorry i know that's a lot of questions in these last few posts.

the region setting is set in the game code and is signed , none of these chips will play all region wii discs without swap. Nobody knows what nintendo will do or can do to detect these chips, only time will tell.

What a Fooking Bastard!!! The upgrade feature requires a seperate on / off switch!!! I dont have a Wii yet so cant look at one where a switch can go or if you would need to make holes in your case for wires etc so could someone with a wii be able to look for possible mounting positions for a switch and place for wires to come out the case without drilling (Eg Vent gaps?) Thanks ..
Oh yea, Looks a peice of piss to install. But I would recommend using wires to install it and not the quick solder incase you want to remove it (Much easier to remove wires that a quick solder mod ) |
Interesting... don't know how I feel about that switch though, lol.

As I said several times before... gamefreax ftw.
reliable, fast (well - not always), cheap (most of the time) and reliable.
did I mention that they are reliable? Well...
