I cant answer the first question but Im quite sure all DVD writers do not require driver software these days! May the NFOrce be with you always.

some drivers need to be flashed to a specific firmware for them to be able to burn xbox360 games.

Drives yes but not drivers. Im quite sure there is a difference. Drive is the hardware. Driver is the software yes? Unless English isnt his native language, he should say what he means lol.
