How about that new Half-Life side scroller that came out a couple of months ago.... Project Gordon maybe? Can't remember the name. It was free and was supposed to be fun.
The thing is, every time I get nostalgic and download some old game/emu etc. I get excited and think, "Wow <insert game here> used to rock! I would play it for hours at a time! This is gonna be soooo fun!" But then reality sits in and you realize that while the game may have been great at the time, it pales in comparison with what is available now.
This happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I downloaded a C64 emu and lots or roms and was real excited to play Bard's Tale. I played for 5 mins and went back to Farcry. Uggg. Alot of old stuff is freaking unplayable today.

some old snes games like mystical ninja, clay mates, putty squad.
shinobi (dunno why no1 hasnt mentioned this)
earthworm jim did get pretty hard after a while but was pretty good especially if u liked the cartoons.
there seems to be a game escaping my mind but i have no idea which one. codename is alright but sucks compared to something like smw.

Grab a GameBoy Advanced and SNES emulators, and play some of those Metroid games.
