Fans of Diablo-style action games rejoice, yet another title lurks on the horizon. In addition to Monte Cristo's Silverfall, which is already released in Europe, players can look forward to Ascaron Entertainment's Sacred 2: Fallen Angel, sequel to the action-RPG of the same name, just without a "2" at the end. From what we've seen of the game, it seems poised to offer some flashy graphics and smooth animations, a variety of fantastical enemies, and a large, open world in which to run amok.

The sequel to 2004's fantasy action role-playing game is going full 3D and will also appear on the Xbox 360.

2004's Sacred offered up a solid example of Diablo-style action role-playing. You controlled a fantasy character and then hacked and slashed your way through the story, becoming even more of a death dealer along the way. Even the game's 2D visuals seem inspired by Blizzard's seminal classic. With Sacred 2: Fallen Angel, German-developer Ascaron hopes to update the series with a new engine and other enhancements while keeping the hack-and-slash nature of the gameplay.
Sacred 2 is being set 2,000 years before the events of the first game, so it's going to be a prequel of sorts. You'll once again be able to choose from up to six different characters, representing different genders and races. Four of these characters will have good and evil paths, so you can play them either way, while the remaining two will either have a dedicated good or evil path. Since each campaign is about 30 hours, that amounts to about 300 total hours of gameplay if you play each campaign.
You will once again roam around a large virtual world, slaying all manner of monsters left and right and pursuing up to 650 side quests, only in this case the world is going to be much larger. It's also in 3D for the first time, and one of the interesting things about Sacred 2 is how the game is being optimized for the Xbox 360 and PC. For instance, the Xbox 360 version will take advantage of the system's three CPU cores to offer up better visuals. One core will handle the game itself, another will take care of the special effects, while the third will be responsible for streaming the game's content so that there are no level loads. So the Xbox 360 version will feature advanced features such as fluid dynamics. Think of your character kicking up leaves into the air and then those leaves swirling about realistically in the wind. The PC version won't feature that because Ascaron says that you'll need a quad-core CPU, and those aren't widely available.
There's are a lot of promising features in the game. Randomly generated NPC behavior is one example, so if you play the game multiple times, you won't get the exact same reactions from the characters twice. Also, each class has its own exotic animal mount, ranging from a tiger to a flying dragon. There will be multiplayer support with cooperative play throughout the campaign, as well as player-versus-player gameplay. Then there's a dynamic weather system, along with time-of-day effects, and more.
Ascaron plans to launch both versions of the game simultaneously, but that's something that's not going to happen for a while, as Sacred 2 is currently scheduled for release sometime in the first quarter of 2008, so it's still a year away.

First game and it's two expansions (The free upgrade known as Plus and the real expansion known as Underworld) were quite good and the scaling made sure the player always found better stuff and were always challenged, tons of items and monsters as well though as usual with games like this the story were quite weak though it isn't that important for a hack and slash and there were quite a few other quests to do as well as a few random ones once the current region was saved, player could also reach the extremely high level of 255 though again, the scaling enemies and gear still managed to make thing interesting and there were quite a few difficulty levels from Bronze to Niob.
(Tons of skills and abilities as well plus well balanced and varied playable characters)
Had alot of fun playing them and really look forward to the sequel.
(Screens look good and the trailer on the Tortuga dvd recently released was very interesting to watch)

Delay sep 2008

Quote: | 12-25-2007
Dear friends and fans of SACRED 2 – Fallen Angel
We would have preferred to announce the delay to the release date at an earlier stage, but there are many reasons why we could only inform you of it now.
A longer development process requires maximum performance in all areas, and a large number of people are involved in that process. In a crucial decision making phase it is impossible to communicate important news directly – we hope you understand.
An extension of the development process was necessary in order to ensure that we realize all the development plans and ship both PC and Xbox 360 versions with the best possible quality and stability.
A game as complex as SACRED 2 – Fallen Angel, with its many technical innovations, requires extensive testing and balancing in all areas. In certain areas of development we often had to make our way into uncharted territory when it came to implementing the new technologies which are required to make SACRED 2 – Fallen Angel the game that we set out to make. This inevitably led to situations where satisfactory realization of a vision took a bit longer than originally planned.
So, what to do? Scrap features? No, definitely not!
Patch with a patch as only a patch can patch? No, that's also out of the question!
The most important thing, after all, is the game. Fortunately for everyone, we are in the enviable position where all involved parties (share holders, banks and distributors) agreed to our plans for continuing to develop SACRED 2 – Fallen Angel according to our vision and create the best action RPG possible.
We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere thanks to our partners for their support and belief in both Ascaron and in SACRED 2 – Fallen Angel.
We'd like to ask our fans and friends for their understanding, and we hope that any potential disappointment is outweighed by looking forward to a superb SACRED 2 – Fallen Angel release in September 2008. Indeed, it is quite likely that many of you will have a chance to beta test the game.
Shortly before the release we'd like to make a demo available to the public and, who knows, maybe we will have a surprise ready for the Games Convention 2008… Watch this space.
You can rest assured that the Ascaron team is pulling out all the stops to deliver a SACRED 2 – Fallen Angel game that not only meets the high expectations, but blows those expectations clean out of the water!
Season's greetings and a happy New Year to one and all
The Ascaron Team |

Yes, everyone knows this. It's because PC's have an inferior leaf generator to XBOX360.

Looks sweet!
The music on the HD-demo should be changed asap. Immersion killer in my opinion. Graphics could've been a little sharper and I didn't particularly like the animations somehow, but it looked like a definite buyer. Looking foward to it indeed.

Some new pics:
http://www.krawall.de/web/Sacred_2_F.../id,29447/s,,c
Also a german preview a interesting read:
http://www.krawall.de/web/Sacred_2_F.../id,29476/s,,c
Few facts from it:
max lv 216.
Difficulties:bronze, silver, gold, platinum, Niob and Hardcore in the last difficulty when you die you are really dead.
The kraken on one of the pics is a boss.
You can get a horse at the start of the game and get the char exclusive ride by doing a quest.
All 94 ascaron employees are working on sacred 2.
Traveling from one point of the land to another (as long of a route as possible) will take about 6 hours if you walk.
There will be achievements to unlock for both the pc and 360 version.
The pc version is currently looking the best because it is a few weeks ahead of the 360 version.
There are many different kinds of areas, they talked about an aztec pyramid that looks like it came out of a tomb raider game and a swamp as examples.
They are putting a lot of time in adding small details to make the world feel as real as possible.
The dark or light choice you make before beginning the game will influence atleast half of the mainquests which means more replay value.

I am absolutely fucking DISGUSTED that the X360 version is going to be better than the PC one. What the fuck? They get the "proper" game while we get some gimped piece of shit?
Fuck you Ascaron. Fuck you, you lame pricks.
And to think I considered Sacred to be one of the greatest RPGs of our time. I own both the original game and expansion, legit retail, because I consider them worth my money. This one? Blow it out your stinking arses, Ascaron. I'm going to pirate this shit the second it gets pre'ed. Fucking X360 fanboy scum.
