I would like to know which one you guys are going to go after when they are out...I myself I have looked at both & I feel CM5 has my vote.

CM5 has the player stats are out of 100, that itself is a great bonus, this means there should be a noticeable difference in one player from the other & also make bring young players into the team more enjoyable as training players was always boring, never was there all that much a difference...well thats what I think, let me know what you think?

sports interactive (si) are the king of the hill when it comes to these types of games.
i cant see anyone taking the crown from them.

They have the reputation as the king of the hill for management sims but I reckon people might be suprised by CM5. SI will probably add shitty useless gimmicky features and have wasted time on changing the interface (yet again) for no real reason other than to make it seem like a massive overhaul.

I'm sure the developers of CM5 are more than aware of what has made the CM series popular and, if they build on it by making the right improvements, I reckon they might be able to release the better game.

Dryan way off the mark Smile

They HAD to change the interface for legal reasons, and it is in fact CM5 that has gone down the gimmicks route - from everything I've read and seen as well it appears to be more streamlined and aimed at the casual gamer.

As for stats out of 100 being better than 20 it's an age old debate and there isn't an easy answer because it's paramount how the engine actually translates this stat - and in the case of CM5 we have little idea yet.

My mind is already made up, but FM still has some convincing to do - I just can't see CM5 taking any of my time.

I haven't read much on CM5 so I didn't know what they were doing with it. Pretty disappointing that they're making it gimmicky Sad . I also didn't know about the interface thing. It's fair enough if they have no choice but to change the interface.

I just had a look through the FM features list and I swear they copy and paste the new features thing for every release. "New player statistics", "Refined match engine" "Improved media engine", "New leagues".

The screenshots do look nice though. I just wish they would make the tactics more realistic and less trial-and-error. The other flaws which annoy me basically boil down to inaccurate player data.

I know what you mean with the features list, some of them were actually ommitted features that used to be in the old CM series and are making a spectactular comeback... being asked what you think of your chances this season is one, but there are a few more.

The media editor isn't really a media editor at all, it's a 'mind games comments editor' - and details are sparse - they don't just come right out and say this, instead they let you speculate until someone had the nerve to bring it up and get shot down for questioning (mind games comment editor is too much of a mouthfull. well that's all fair and well, but why not inform us of it's limitations a few months back so we didn't get our hopes up of changing the almost certain to be basic and generic news reporting that comes default Sad)
...you should go on the forums and speak out, they get all pissed off hundreds of apologists with calm and collective, nice demenours will flood your topic with what basically amounts to licking SiGames ass.

But still, it's the same with PES - I could list you many faults with the game that drive me crazy (just one is the way defenders goto the last known location rather than anticipate the movement of the player - which means you end up with the defender circling the attacker as he moves forward and chasing his heels. The catch up logic in the old games was also a stinker)

But I still love the game and play it on an almost daily basis - there's nothing better, not even FIFA 2005 which I found to be a bit refreshing - and with PES4 the cycle will continue Very Happy

Demo for FM2005 is very close, a week or so I believe - so you can make your mind up properly then.

I've been on the SI forums. I made a suggestion regarding the transfer system that I had discussed with people in a CM IRC channel and I never got a reply from any of the SI staff. It was quite a well thought out idea buts since I wasn't brown nosing them I don't think they listened.

I know what you mean regarding the brown nosers - there are thousands of them and they defend SI at any opportunity. You can't even defend yourself against them because there are so many.

The SI staff are just as bad. I've hated Miles ever since his comment that the warez version has a virus and will completely fuck your computer. Fair enough - I can understand they want to stop people from downloading the game but wouldn't they be better doing that by improving the game instead of blatantly lying about the pirate version.

I've also had a couple of conversations with some members of the SI staff and they never take any suggestions on board. I think they have an arrogance about them because their game has been successful and aren't willing to listen to any constructive criticism.

FM2005

SIgames make the best when it comes to that.

sure CM4 was tosh, but they fixed that with CM 03/04

CM5 may be good, but without the original team who made the name it will never be as good as what the previous CMs have been (allthough in time it could turn out to be ok)

FM2005 without a doubt. From what I see, CM5 appears to be rushed and dumbed down.

Feyenoord4ever - FM2005 is the next game from SI, the people who made all the CM games. Their contract with Eidos was up and Eidos own the name CM, so they're continuing the series under the name of Football Manager. SI own the game code, the database and the scouting network. If you like CM and are looking forward to the next version, you're looking forward to FM.

A quickstart of the English leagues to be sure, and you play half a season of the 'full' game, minus probably the sounds.

It's a beta demo as well, so buggy and prone to fixes before gold.

FM2005 by a mile.

the eidos game is just going to be another brainless management game like premier manager. already changing basic things that champ manager has had from the start. the whole attributes out of 100 is bollocks, the fun is scouting out players that are great from the ones that are mediocre and not from just numbers alone, and they seem to have changed that straight away. fuck'em.

The only thing that bothers me for FM5 is the player photos. for instance say you have Robbie Savage in your team with his photo next to his name...but then your youth team coach promotes one ov the up n coming talents to the first team...with a randomly generated name ie Frank Skinner....what photo will he have????..will there be a randomly generated photo for him??...in my own opinion i think they should scrap the photos for players

Regarding the photo thing there was a competition to get your face as one of the randomly generated photos IIRC so for randomly generated players the photos will be one of these CM fans.

This photo thing must be the most gimmicky feature they could have possible added. Unless being able to see a photo of the player is crucial to managing a football team. They could have improved the tactics or something but they add this shit - it sums it up.

FM5 is the REAL CM5. CM5 won't be done by the guys developed the first 4 series of the game.

Of course FM5, from the interview I took, it sounds very interesting Very Happy

Yeah, the manager from EA was a piece of shit. It wasn't balanced at all, players stats weren't correct and the managment was pure joke.
I'm looking forward to FM5.
