You. A cop? No!!!!!!
Seriously. The day you put on a badge is the day I cancel all my flights to England Very Happy

If I was given the chance to be a cop. I wouldn't take it. I have a theory about me... give me any amount of power and I'll exploit it. Very Happy I guess I'm just afraid of what I'll do if I'm given a gun and told to patrol my neighborhood Very Happy

Then again... I hear bribes are good these days Very Happy

lol, you'll get 21k-24k then when you get shot you either lose all of that or you spend most of it on medical bills.

I'm planning on going into law enforcement once I finish my degree, of course as I'd be a forensics lab technician it's completely different, but still on the right side of the law. Smile

Go for it, it's one of the best jobs you can get with no qualifications, great advancement prospects too.

sorry, just had to Razz

as long as you're not a prick, and don't plan on abusing your power, then why not become a cop?

probably a pretty good career if you stick with it, so much better than being unemployed. really, if you don't have any post-secondary education, or training in a trade ... I doubt you'll do much better Smile

Yeah, but they're typically used in gang on gang crime. It is very rare for a police constable to get shot, it's all over the news when it happens.

I was also referring to the fact that you wouldn't be spending all your salary on medical bills over here either.

^ I'm from England myself

Yeah its true, gun related crime is more gang on gang stuff but its becoming more sporadical.
I was in Dublin during Febrary and a kid was shot, turns out it was the other kid they were looking for.
In all seriousness though, fair play if you want to be a policeman but from the people i've spoke to who have entered the profession they like but they do alot of paperwork and less street work. Its a shame really. The areas that need the police the most don't get them. This is due to police paperwork and hatred/fear of the police in said areas.

To me you wouldn't be able to make a different, go into social work if you do what do something positive.

Was that better Saint ? Smile

If the only other option was unemployment then I would definitely consider becoming a cop. Having said that, I must say that law enforcement or the military is (in most cases) a lifetime career. See very few people who make a switch to 'civillian' jobs. But on the other hand you could try and follow some courses (paid by the department ofcourse Very Happy) and upgrade to higher paid cop such as a detective or something and it would be more challenging too. Though I have no clue how easy it would be to move up but getting there would be part of the challenge.

Good luck mate.

Funny you should mention this, I actually thought of being a copper as well however a friend of mine at work has become a CSO now she has virtually no qualifications yet she does sport a mean tan and a nice pair of tits and thus aquired herself a job that pays 19k which is more than I'm making at the moment Sad

She came in the one night and told me I'm wasting life ect and really should apply for a job as a CSO or even a Police officer she seems to think I could get in easy my fitness isnt a problem since I go to the gym 5 times a week ive never been in trouble with the law except I got caught for speeding and I've had a fair few jobs since leaving education.

I dont know I suppose I got a lot of thinking to do myself.

By the way, I say go for it. It surprises me that in your country you don't need any qualifications, because the tests (psychological, medical, IQ, language and fitness) and screenings, and even a chat with a psychologist they put you through here in the Netherlands means that it's actually very hard to become a police officer. I'm currently in the last phase applying for 4.9 year education to become a Chief Officer in the Amsterdam area, and certainly do hope I get hired. It's a great career choice, you know you're doing something for your society, and you get to work in the hero business. No day will be the same. Good luck!

If I don't get hired I'm going to study sociology and try again in four years.

Wow, sounds like you've been through a horrible ordeal. Especially the part where you were escorted back home by them sounds rough. Glad you're OK.

I think, unless you live in a very big city, you usually don't get stationed in your hometown. At least that's how it works here.

And she might be a brainy bitch, but you're on nforce so you're a total geek. I aced the tests - so can you.

I was thinking about joining the Police myself. But I might stick to college right now. I mean working up to detective doesn't seem to bad either. But I'd go to the states to do it. Maybe Sheriff? That's cool Very Happy
