probably a stupid question, and im pretty sure the answer is no, but:

are there any negative effects in partitioning your hdd? does it cause drops in speed or any instability? any issues at all?

thanks.

Ive never had anyone able to prove it, who said it does have negatives. And with partitioning you can keep things like yer swap file defraged easy and where physically on the disk its located.

From my experience instability only happens when yer goin the opposite way, disk spanning with software or hardware...and raid 0 especially, which isnt true raid anyways, and has almost no benefits.

The only negative side of partitioning is that it wastes space for keeping file system data. Two partitions is fine. More than that is a waste.

Just a bit more info...Had my hdd partioned for quite a while. One partition was running XP Pro and the other Vista Ultimate so it was dual boot. No problems to report of. Everything ran smooth even when I got rid of vista.
Uninstalled it no problem and then got rid of the partition. Just like the other guy said...I suppose the only downside is the space it can waste in storing system files. Thats all really.
