|
 |
ok i have a strange problem...
the game starts, i choose a city, the city loads and when i
see the houses and stuff, it 'hangs' and the screen gets
full with white & bright coloured blocks...
at that point the only way getting out is resetting the pc.
specs:
athlon xp 1800+
GF4 ti4200
512MB RAM
winxp pro sp1
The Sims 2 - AlcoholClone - CLONEGAME (mdf files)
daemon tools 3.46
anyone have an idea?

I am having the exact same problem!
I pm'd you about it on the other nfo site, using a different name.
My system is very similar to yours.
P3 1.2ghz, 512mb, SBLive!, GF4 ti4200, WinXP Pro w/SP1, DX9.0c. Mounted with Daemon Tools 3.47.
I have tried 5 different drivers for my video card, and took the time to use a driver cleaner between all of them to make sure I was removing the old one fully. Omega 45.23a, Nvidia 45.23a, 56.72, 61.77 and 65.73.
I tried numerous settings in my video card settings, and bios. I tried numerous graphic settings in the game. I reinstalled the game like 4-5 times.
The only difference is, I have the French cloneCD version, not the alcohol one, but I am in the process of getting that one now to try.
I can play anywhere from about 2 to 15 minutes, before I get a full white screen (or a screen with white and dark pixels, alternating, like a chessboard). Then I hard lock and have to reset the computer. It's like my video card is failing or something. But I have no problems at all with anything else.
The only thing I haven't tried yet was to lower my video acceleration to see if that helps. Going to try that a bit later.

Sorry, dunno, I have it mounted in Daemon Tools, no emulations options on. I do not have CloneCD or Alcohol installed currently. Just Daemon 3.47.

Welp.. I have now tried both versions of this game, same problem. I tried adjusting my video acceleration as well, which was pretty much the last straw (you name it, I have probably tried it). Game will crash within 15 min max with a white screen, or a screen with white and black alternating squares covering the whole screen. Music keeps playing, but often I'll hear a windows error beep a bit later as the game ends up crashing.
I've been meaning to reinstall my windows lately.. has been nearly a year, and I'm desperate enough at this point to try anything. Maybe I have some remenant of a driver out there somewhere, or something.. I dunno.... It's frustrating as hell, I want to play this game.

I think the problem is with users who have a geforce card. Tried both versions of the game and they froze up both. Complete reboot of the system. Tried also everything already except for formatting my windows.
Right now i'm using Directx9.0c and old drivers because the new Nforce driver sux big time! Is there already a fixx out or something like that? I'm wondering if every users with problems of rebooting or hanging is using a Nvidia card. Let me know!

Im using a 5600 and I get about 5 minutes of play and then a complete reboot.
Ive turnd down the graphic acceleration one notch and the game didnt crash but I couldnt do anything anyway is there was just garbage on my screen.
In the txt file it says that you should turn off hyperthreading but my bios dosnt have that option. I even installed the latest version, but maybe some of you guys could try turning it off in your bios to see if that has any effect.

Well gonna check it out, already tried setting the game to a lower quality but that didn't do the trick either. Gonna check my bios to see if the hyperthreading option is selectable.

I get the reboot problem, but as soon as I double click Sims2 icon or the mounted cd image auto-loads. Splash screen or whatever doesn't show. I tried backing my drivers up to an older version as I was using Catalyst 4.9, however, same problem no matter what... Damn game...
Using ATi 9800 Pro.

Try to use a older version of your driver, that should solve the ATI problem. Anyone got a clue on how things are doing with the Geforce Reboot Problems?

Sorted out the crash problem with my 5600. I just downgraded my drivers to version 45.23. Anything newer just kept crashing after only a couple of minutes.
I have been playing for two hours now without a single crash.

NVIDIA GEFORCE SERIES
PROBLEM: In certain lighting conditions, Sims will have small flashing triangles.
CARDS: GeForce FX 5600
This is a known driver bug. Turning lighting options from high to medium will resolve this. Updating your driver to the latest version may also help.
PROBLEM: From certain camera angles, Sims may be missing some triangles.
CARDS: GeForce FX 5200
This is a known driver bug. However, updating your driver to the latest version may help.
PROBLEM: The neighborhood and many screens display all grey.
CARDS: GeForce 6800
This is a new video card, and this is a known driver bug with an early version of the driver. Disabling hyperthreading on your machine may help (see below). Updating to the latest driver may help.
PROBLEM: Interface panels and buttons may disappear or turn a solid blue color.
CARDS: GeForce 4 series
This is a known bug in some older drivers (before version 6177). Upgrading to the latest manufacturer's drivers will resolve this.
FORCED ANTI-ALIASING: Sims 2 will have graphical problems if anti-aliasing is
forced on in display properties. To fix this:
* Right click on your windows desktop and select Properties.
* Choose the Settings tab and press the Advanced button.
* Select the GeForce tab.
* Select Performance and Quality settings from the left menu.
* Switch Anti-aliasing settings to Application Controlled.
PROBLEM: Game crashes soon after starting.
Some recent NVIDIA drivers have problems when running when Hyperthreading is enabled on your processor. Try updating your driver first. If this doesn't help, turning off Hyperthreading in your BIOS will workaround this issue. If you have no idea what Hyperthreading or BIOS is, it's probably not worth messing around with this stuff. Contact your video card manufacturer for assistance.
Thats in the readme. Sooner or later either a Patch or driver will fix it.
