Alice Fans,
Questions for you:
1) If we could get the rights from EA, would you play "Alice 3?"
2) If you'd play "Alice 3," would you back it on Kickstarter?
3) If you said "yes" to those two things, make some noise - I'm trying to gauge interest in case I happen to discuss this with EA during GDC in 2 weeks. The more interest there is, the more seriously they'll take the conversation.

Please please please you guys respond to his Facebook page if you can, and/or spread the news to other sites!

Alice: Madness Returns was such an amazing game! The pacing was a little off (the game was looooong), but the art was soooo good and the platforming and combat elements were at the very least decent. Those Chinese developers really impressed me!

A Kickstarter probably means a more (or exclusively) PC focused sequel as well (mouse control was bad in AMR..)

I want to see Alice 3 on PC! Who's with me?

He can easily make Alice 3. EA would easily pay for it.

the way i see it, he is using the bad situation ea is in right now during the sim city fiasco to try and get the franchise back from them, so he can develop it independently via kickstarter.
by openly talking about this, he is making sure that the fans will automatically blame ea if the kickstarter doesnt happen.

would love both ideas Otherlands and Ozombie Smile
and its great that if it succeed ons KS its not gonna be completely serverbased as they said before( because of dynamic spawns - meaning no two monster spawns will ever be the same), but there will be offline mode aswell
Quote:
An important note on Single Player Offline mode and DRM related to our upcoming Kickstarter campaign (whether it'll be Alice: Otherlands or OZombie still not certain).

The image below (pissed off Flying Monkey; early concept artwork from "OZombie") does a good job expressing the reaction gamers sometimes have when told a single player game might require a constant internet connection (always online) - something they equate to a form of DRM. While I think this sort of reaction ignores the general direction we're heading with entertainment - and I do not think it's necessarily bad thing (there's nuance in my position on this) - we're trying our best to listen and adjust our strategy in response to our customers... even a vocal minority.

So... all this being said, I've been working with the networking team to make changes to our cross-platform/device technology - so that we can deliver an Offline Single Player campaign blended together with Online Multiplayer inside of one game. Details are still being hammered out - but we now know we CAN deliver on this idea. There'd still be an initial online registration/login for the single player game, but once that's done you'd be able to play OFFLINE single player without a connection (and without re-logging-in).

Hope this helps to calm some concerns about either an Alice or Oz project, where a large portion of the game will revolve around a single-player narrative-driven adventure, blended together with an online multiplayer portion.

Feedback and thoughts on this are welcome.

If you read between the lines he is using the hype for a potential Alice 3 that WON'T happen, to market his next game; OZombie.

That's my theory at least.

I feel the same way, Good on them for finding people that will give them money that way. But it wont be me.
I feel its the same as the "online petition" craze..Everyone with an idea makes a useless 'crowd funding' page. For the useless crap, it clutters the site with useless stuff.
And even the things I AM interested in, reading the pages on how they ask for money makes me feel like I just got pitched at by a guy in a cheap suit with a $5 haircut trying to sell me a used car. Only thing its missing is the smiling airhead woman holding a box of it waving her hand slowly around it while he talks..lol

Maybe its the fact that they are using the same "low brow ask for funding" site that Joe Bob average can use to ask for funding for his "super weed man fights the munchies" game.

If established games makers dominate kick-starter / crowd funding the over all effect on gaming has to be negative.
Firstly because it will soak up money that was being spent on games that unlike McGee & co's soaps, have no alternative funding source.
Next the basic integrity of many nascent developers who have been using kick starter etc thus far will get replaced with the usual corporate 'bottom line is all' ethos & most likely we will see more investors getting cynically ripped off.
Let's not forget that game banksters such as EA & Activision aren't gonna take this potential competition lying down so they will do everything they can to discredit crowd funding, including pulling stunts using cult developers with AAA game connections as fronts for debacles aimed at discrediting this funding alternative.
Crowd funding or kickstart is already being used/abused as a marketing technique by the sleazier end of town, lots more of that will have gamers considering the whole bizness just another cynical steaming cow turd aimed at making yet another white elephant exercise in imagination free un-optimised coding, smell sweet.

The cool thing about Kickstarter games is you were getting something you had no chance of otherwise. For example Brian Fargo talked about pitching Wasteland 2 to publishers for years to no avail.

Nowadays everyone is jumping on the bandwagon even if they seemingly don't need to.

Why did Jagged Alliance Flashback need Kickstarter? It's not a revival of an old series...Back in Action, Crossfire and JA Online all came out recently. The developer also admitted BitComposer was already supporting them.

Now Alice? Why? This series' last game came out in 2011 and was published by EA. Why don't they have EA fund this one?

Because the game bombed and EA has no interest for another. It's no different than "Wasteland 2".

How many platformers has EA funded/published this generation? Exactly. We are still hoping for a Mirror's Edge 2 announcement.. It's been FIVE years.

The failure of Alice pretty meant the end of it.

You guys act like it's a shooter and you can't see why wouldn't EA be interested in funding another one. The question is why WOULD they want to make a platformer?

The game came out 14 June 2011.

June NPD: http://www.eurogamer.net/forum/thread/213797

Quote:
01. L.A. Noire (360, PS3) Take 2 Interactive - 419,000
02. Duke Nukem Forever (360, PS3, PC) Take 2 Interactive - 376,300
03. Infamous 2 (PS3) Sony - 369,200
04. Lego Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game (Wii, 360, NDS, PS3, 3DS, PSP, PC) Disney Interactive Studios
05. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (3DS) Nintendo - 283,200
06. Call of Duty: Black Ops (360, PS3, Wii, NDS, PC) Activision Blizzard
07. NBA 2K11 (360, PS3, Wii, PS2, PSP, PC) Take 2 Interactive
08. Mortal Kombat 2011 (PS3, 360) Warner Bros. Interactive
09. Cars 2 (NDS, Wii, 360, PS3, PC) Disney Interactive Studios
10. Just Dance 2 (Wii) Ubisoft

Quote:
Random Game Sales
Alice < 120k (360 > PS3)
Child of Eden < 30k
Wii Play Motion < 30k
Shadow of the Damned < 20k (360 > PS3)
SSF4 AE: < 20k (PS3 > 360)

So not charted in top 10. Sales < 120k

July NPD: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=30020563&postcount=1
Nowhere to be found.

So let's say 120k for first month (likely less) + 60k for second (in any case lower than 85k which was the #10 selling title of July) = 180.
Add another 180k for Europe/Asia.
And add half of that (90k) for PC downloads (likely less).

Total: 450k before it disappeared from the face of the earth. For comparison DNF did 376k in the same month, on NA retail alone.

EA ain't funding another Alice anytime soon.

Remember SpicyHorse/American McGee spoke about working on Alice 3 or OZombie? Well it looks like the Alice 3 idea was shelved or scrapped, since OZombie is the one they're working on after all.
