the genius behind fallout was the writting, Without it it's dead.
This game won't have good writting. it'll just be another 3d RPG with a rotatable camera and real time combat (neverwinter nights) but with nice graphics and maybe similar gameplay elements to fallout 1/2.

Fallout is no Fallout if you can't critically hit children into their groins with your super sledgehammer.

Someone wrote that what made Fallout great was the writing, which is very true IMO. I don't see how Bethesda can live up to that. However I hope I'm wrong. They really need to do a good job on this one, or a lot of fans are gonna be pissed.

Bethesda? Fallout? They couldn't draw a decent npc model for their lives.
Someone grab a plane and go pick up the fallout devs from all over the world.

it all comes down to the money... the devs will make the game as accessable for new players as to old. and sadly i dont think that entitles turnbased system, over head graphics etc...
imo it will be a new game for a new "generation" of fallout players in the end.
Besides its Bethesea... They are good at making games that they claim to be RPG... imo Oblivion was action based RPG... the choices in the conversations or the quest plots were very badly done. what made fallout great was how you could interact with the world and its factions. If you took a mission for one, you could almost always do something unexpected. The missions in oblivion cant compair to fallout 1 and 2.
bah only RPG's worth playing today are those of Bioware. Rest are diablo clones, one way or the other.
imo fallout died with black ilse...

If they sack the turn based system and everything else that made fallout what it is this old fallout fan wont be buying it.Im pretty sick of this "new-school" trash.Seems every decade that goes by the newer generation gets worse.(insert shakes head here)

I just hope it's as adult as the classic fallouts. I don't expect the gameplay to be anywhere near the same, but if they can retain the atmosphere and character of the games i'll be happy.

I'm re-playing Fallout 2 this very minute (nostalgia got the better of me) and if I had one wish it would be for the turn based system to die a horrible death and never ever return. Honestly, go back and re-play the games. The magic, the gameplay. It's all still there - it's as addictive as ever - but you'll be tearing your hair out and having heart attacks every time you hear the combat indicator switch on. It's fucking torture (and that's no exaggeration)!

there's a video of the canceled Fallout 3 from black isle out.
Damn that looks so nice, such a pity. I sure hope whatever bethesda does with it comes close.

Looks good, not much has changed since Fallout 2 I guess just a gfx update and some interface updates but I don't care. If it's ain't broken, don't fix it.
All my prays are with Bethsheda now.

I'm still playing Fallout 2 - they don't need to do anything other than make a new story and sort out the combat system to be more friendly and less of a chore. Of course updated graphics would be nice but I don't really like what they tried to do with 'Van Buren' although it looks a better attempt than Biowares NWN engine in comparison to Baldurs Gate/Infinity. Better, higher quality textures would be nice and of course the gibbing of the characters needs to be possible otherwise I'd cry a river. I just think that the graphics are bland maybe, it seems very 'samey'. Not sure how to explain it.
Still doesn't matter anymore I guess
I hope Bethseda don't screw up Fallout 3!

That trailer looks just as I would want Fallout 3. Bethesda better not make it an Oblivion with a Fallout setting!

so how about a first person turn based fallout 3? I mean, you play around fp then when combat starts you get action points and wait for your turn but execute and observe through the first p perpective, which is kond of cool if you can see the guys shooting at you and all and you cant do shit cos' you spent your turn doing other stuff, which would piss the shit off you but would offer a great view through which you can plan your turns - you see exactly what you see and where bad guys are and what your closest cover is and all that. Would be nice, i woulnt mind.
Somehow i expect parallax to throw a piano on me.

I think that would be suitable as an OPTION, if possible. But in an FPS or anything remotely similar I expect to have control over my character and my goddamn gun and shoot whenever I want. Combat should always be fluid in an FPS, otherwise it would be pointless. Just imagine having to pause and look at your oponent doing shit while you have to wait your turn. You cannot fuse old-school RPG with an FPS in that manner.

are you sure? I'm also pretty sure that Fallout 2 had a real-time only feature. Or maybe that was Jagged Alliance 2 ... oh well.

Definitely no real-time combat in either Fallout 1 or 2. I don't remember it being true real time in tactics either? Wasn't it pseudo real-time or am I mistaken?? Same goes for Jagged Alliance 2... I don't remember any real time combat??
Have you suddenly gone mad?
