No it isn't
Use any of the buntu variants
Kubuntu= kde environment
Ubuntu = Gnome
Xubuntu = Xfce
It only matters as far as what initial environment you'll be placed in as you can always do sudo apt-get install kde-desktop,xfce-desktop or gnome-desktop for your environment of choice regardless of buntu distribution.
If you use synaptic just find the appropriate *-desktop package and it'll sort dependencies for you.
To get a Linux "version" or alternative of "Daemon-Tools" not the logging utility but the virtualcd handler Wink apt-get install acetoneiso or go here www.acetoneteam.org
As a final word, don't listen to LeoNatan when he gives advice regarding Linux as he haven't got a clue.

sabayon is a nice gentoo-based livedvd
it's good for trying out the linux eyecandy and the different windowmanagers without installing anything
(hardware detection is great, thus the boot from dvd can take quite some time)
beyond the livedvd part it's not very beginner friendly though Razz

so if you want to switch to linux or try it out a little longer, go for ubuntu...
