Just started playing this old game and can't believe I have never heard of it until I read a post in the UFO ET thread, I give it 9/10 for game play best game I have played in years.
Who else had enjoyed this tasty little moral?

Yup one of the best. Unfortunately neither the sequel or any of the games using the same engine had the same magic. There were a few promising mods(including one with a fallout-type theme) but don't think any will ever see the light of day.

CrossWire,

Try Hammer& Sickle next, it goes even further than SS. Such plot non-linearity has never been seen in a game before.

Here's a pic of the 'quest tree' that gives you and idea how deep this shit is. Every action influences the game.

There's also several endings depending on your actions.

P.S. Unfortunately the developers and publishers've never put an accent on this in press-releases or ads and even some renowned review sites gave this game bad reviews because they didn't explore and most of them went through the short (5 missions or smthg) storyline and were disappointed.

They're different. SS and its addons is a series of missions like Fallout Tactics. H&S is almost a quest/RPG because it is very plot/story driven and you have to take important decisions constantly. But it has all the fun of the combat.

And all the add-ons (there are two of them) are absolutely worth it. They're not totally new or different but they have their own plots, new locations etc.

Cheers Comrade, this is my lucky day I got a copy of H&S from Amazon second hand for £3, how cheap is that?
I want all the add-ons for Silent storm also because I can see myself playing this for a long time, ie: I just friggin love it.
Bollocks to Medieval 2, cobblers to Silent hunter 4, this is real game play.

You can try Night Watch too. It uses the Silent Storm engine, but they fucked it up and the game is faaaaar worst than SS. Maybe you like it.

A homemade short-film (It's a dramatical experimental videoclip-style short, has nothing to do with games!):

Really? is starforce installed the first time you run the game like Silent hunter?
So you can apply the crack before starting the game, or is starforce installed during the installation?

Yes, it is installed the first time you run the original starforce-infected executables. If you run the cracked ones, no starforce drivers are installed.

I thought jagged alliance 3 (the official one from strategy first) was going to use a newer build of the ss engine?!

Faithful Jagged Alliance-fansite The Bear's Pit has noticed that the Russian print gamesmagazine Game World Navigator scored a scoop on Jagged Alliance 3, the turnbased squadbased strategygame which has been in production for quite some time.

We assume most of you can't read Russian so below are the translated information bits The Bear's Pit has gotten out of the GWN article. The most remarkable fact is that JA3 will use the graphical engine of Silent Storm, one of the few games that managed to catch some of the greatness of JA2, but then in a 3D world with extensive physics and a destroyable environment.

is hammer and sickle that good? the couple of reviews I read were pretty bad so I decided to skip it.

edit : and I can't wait for Jagged Alliance 3. I hope it won't be a letdown, it's one of my favorite game ever. still installed on my computer after 8 years. tells you that much.

i loved the gameplay mechanics of SS
with the great destructuble environments and all
they really should make more games on that engine
i played nearly to the end, until i got enough of the stupid unbalanced scifi elements

h&s was awful
it just wasn't the same
the gameplay felt forced and was way unbalanced

looking forward to JA3 aswell
i really wanted to like JA2, but the gameplay mechanics were just too awkward
too bad, it had a great game underneath

Well for my part I haven't been this addicted to a game for a very long time, I to will now be on the watch for this Jagged Alliance 3 because Jagged Alliance was another game that I have missed, I must have been in a comma when these games where released.
Silent Storm sores into Crosswires top 10.

Your squad guys get slower exp and stuff than the dudes in the roster. So after 7 missions or so the roster is full of peeps better than you. Luckily it doesn't cost anything to switch.

Still a great game, just recently installed again and played through. Sentinels was fine but what little I tried H&S it was awful.
