When I had an Amiga I use to have a game called "Elite II: Frontier", it was a shaceship game where you could be a pirate or just cargo stuff about or just travel from place to place, I know it seems boring, but I enjoyed it at the time does anyone know of this game & if so does anyone know if they ever made a game like it for the PC or did anyone ever steal the idea and feel of the game & make a game like it, if so could you let me know about it?

I know it, it is an excellent game. Here are some similar ones for PC, but none is as good as the original (That doesn't mean they are bad though)

Freelancer
X/X²
Flatspace
Space Rangers I/II
Escape Velocity
Beta Blocker
Hardwar
Battlecruiser Series (But. Do not touch this one. DO NOT. Except maybe the *PATCHED* first one, which is ok.)

Elite 2 ruled! Frontier Developments who made the game released it as shareware (but fully functional) some time ago. You can get both the PC and the Amiga versions of Elite 2 at http://www.eliteclub.co.uk/download/
There you can also get Elite 3 (Frontier: First Encounters), which even if it still contains bugs in its campaign is a nice sequel to Elite 2, with better graphics.
Some very nice Windows 9x ports (launchers) of the games exist on the web, you need the shareware versions of them to be able to play, and they work quite well. Just use google to find them.
As snop said, Elite 4 is announced http://www.frontier.co.uk/games/elite4/faq.html , I hope it's gonna be released soon:)

One of the great eliments about the game was the freedom to be a pirate, or a trader, or a bounty hunter, or whatever you really wanted to be, see in the list of games above, which one is close to allowing you to do whatever you please?

in eve-online you can be whatever you want but as i said its an mmorpg and u might not be one of those people willing to pay to play a game.
here is a link to one of the trailers http://myeve.eve-online.com/download/videos/Default.asp?a=download&vid=27
if you goto mmorpg.com you can get a free 14day trial and then if you like the game turn it into a full acount for 20$ which includes a months subscription.

if your not into mmorpg's "X2 : the threat" is the next best thing
not played it myself but i was told the game gets pretty boring after awhile with no other real people to interact and team up with but if you really loved elite that wouldnt be a problem for you.
freelancer is a great space game exactly like elite was aswell but older than X2

The classical music whilst playing Elite II: Frontier is one of the most memorable features for me! It just fit the game perfectly!

May the NFOrce be with you always.

I also played Elite II: Frontier a lot and liked it. The only thing that annoyed me was that it took a heck of a long time to get a higher rank. IIRC the requirement for one rank always doubled before you could get the next one. It seemed like I played forever but didn't got more than halfway.

Frontier: Elite II is THE best game ever, period. In my opinion anyway.

I can still waste hours playing it. I've never even got anywhere near ELITE status.

As has already been said, you can download shareware versions of Frontier and its sequel, First Encounters from http://www.eliteclub.co.uk

You may have some difficulty getting Frontier to run under modern Windows operating systems, so you may want to download WinUAE from http://www.winuae.net and then run Frontier on that.

Ah Elite, one of the all time classics. I remember playing Elite on my c128d for months, it was fun. I wish they would make something like Elite gold for PC, just like they develop Pirates right now.

Frelancer was cool in the begining, then it got boring. When you have the coolest ship and the biggest guns there is not much to do after that!

Of all the things i've lost, i miss my mind the most!

Sadly, i am afraid, that elite 4 is abandon. Barben made this posted interview more than year or two ago. Since this time no more news Sad. But I am waiting still for elite 4. Meanwhile there is a lot of pirate versions of elite 3 (first encouters) with patches that make elite 3 playable on XP

i can still remember the utter excitement of being offered my first mission on Elite ,i think it happened after about 3 solid weeks of play. Auto docking was for wimps.

I looked up "gormless" in the dictionary, it said "without gorm" .... so i looked up "gorm" but it wasn't there ????

That would be X2. It follows Elite in concept very closely.

It's worth getting especially if you patch to the latest version, there's been a lot of bug fixing, and there's a big community.

Eve online is really heating up now. It's everthing Elite used to be but in a much more convincing multiplayer universe.

Elite 4 is indeed in development.
