i just got a new seagate 500 gb sata hd and i put it in my computer and the computer wont boot i took the power to it out of the new hd then it booted fine i have 6 hds including this one i plugged the power back into the 500 gb hd then i took the power out of the other 4 hds and it still wouldn't boot i was wondering if it was a power supply issue i have a 500 Watt power supply should that be enough power to boot the 6th hds.

try take one other drive out and see if it starts then
if not, the hd might be short circuited and the PSU saves the day by not letting it fry itself
you could try on a different comp aswell

Well same way a memory wouldn't post cause of faulty memory. If the HD is already dead coming out of the factory it's simply not gunna work. It's computer hardware and it happens and just gotta go with the flow. That's what warranty's are for I've had one of my sticks of memory die on me..sent it back to the company, they send me a new pair. Razer mouse just died, sent it back to them and their sending me a new one once they recieve it.

errm
that would require something to actually monitor that shit
it's not magic
if the comp won't turn on because of a faulty hd it can only mean that the hd power circuitry is shorted out and the PSU won't let you, and thus protects the machine from physical harm you are about to cause it
take the HD back
the longer you keep obviously faulty hardware, the harder it is to return
