If I were to buy a mobo that had (for this example) cossfire support, do I need to buy 2 crossfire cards immediately? Or can I buy one now, and save up for the second later?

Just buy one card and when you feel like it buy the 2nd one...

just buy one good card and don't waste ur money on sli
