Okay fellow Nforcers I need some advice.
Im 26 years old now and gaming has come a long way since I was a kid. I just spent an arm and a leg on a new rig and Ive become bored of PC gaming, infact most gaming, I have a 360 gathering dust too.
I remember as a kid absolutely loving cartoons, I also remember saying to myself 'I will always watch them, even when Im grown up' then one day you realise they aint funny anymore, youve matured and outgrown the childish humour. Thats the way Ive been feeling about gaming lately, I feel like Ive grown out of it mostly. The years of gaming online and clans were great but I think its becoming stale. I generally cant play any game at the min for more than a half hour without becoming bored.
One of the main reasons is I think we are being spoiled. Great games are coming out and with every release the developers boast new features both tech and graphical, we absorb them and then we expect all games to adhere to the new high bar that's been set. We want more and more, so with the slight glimmer that I might boost myself back into gaming I would like some suggestions about games to rekindle my love for games.
Im not talking ancient games (I played them enough when I was young) Im talking some games that broke boundries in the last few years, offered something that others didnt and sucked you in.
For example I just reinstalled Riddick: Butcher Bay, and I'm having a blast. any other gems worth reinstalling? , maybe with some great mods Ive missed? anything to get me back into it!
cheers
MONKEH!

What about The nomad soul?. Nobody talks about that game, and I think it was a game far foward its time, with an oustanding story, great gameplay and amazing graphics for its time.
It was the precursor of GTA 3 style to me.
One of the first games that used lip synchro
David Bowe appears in the game too;)
If u didnt play it, do it. Im sure it doesn't look so good now than then, but the story should still be great.

I'm 20 years old and I know exactly how you feel dude. I want to play games badly, I always enjoyed them soo much, and now I get bored in half an hour, any game.
I don't think it has to do anything with age however, it's the state of mind you are in.
If I have many stuff on my mind, like right now, with college and everything, I can't get myself to play a thing, even if I have some free time. But as soon as the exams end it takes about 1 week for me to adjust, and I just go home, clear my mind, no obligations, no roomate, and then I can play for hours on end and enjoy myself completely.
You're older so I guess you have other worries than me, but it's essentialy the same I guess.
Although there are few games I can play in this state of mind, and that's mostly multiplayer FPS games and small flash games, and sometimes rarely a good game comes out I actually manage to finish.

EXACTLY the same situation here... hope I'll play some again after the finals, but I really doubt it, there are no games which glue me to the screen anymore.

Well if you are looking for really revolutional, I'd say Psychonauts. That game really left me gasping for air sometimes. The start is a little slow and I didn't really like all that stuff collecting which most platformers got, but the levels and the boss fights were wicked. I played it through in two days and never got bored.
Oh and Tron 2.0 was kinda awesome aswell, the levels felt cool. The game did not try to create a realistic feeling, it created an completely off the hook artificial world. And this is what computer games are for, you can create anything you want, yet developers always try to make games more realistic, even though that makes games less fun mostly.

I think BearishSun really hit it on the head at least for my scenario.
I'm the IT Director for a local hospital and have 4 children. I am never alone and there is always something that I "should" be doing instead.
I find myself spending 30 minutes tweaking and checking a game out then I never go back. Plus I have almost a Terra of HD space and it's full. I delete stuff that I never played that was "have to have it" titles 2 months ago.
Family has to go away for a wedding out of state in a couple weeks so I am going to find out then if that's the case.

btw. @ poster dude: I think its great that you don't play games anymore.(at least not that much) I think those days I spent in front of the computer playing games are wasted days.(unfortunately its truly how I feel) Now I only play when I have absolutely nothing better to do. + My configuration sucks so next gen graphics are beyond me.

I'm also 26 (my birthday was a week-and-a-half ago), and I also feel the same way about modern games. I did for a time think that it was because I was getting tired of gaming, but it didn't take long for me to figure out that it wasn't me who left gaming behind, but for the most part the other way around. Commercial games are so expensive to make now that few publishers are willing to take risks, so we don't get the wide variety of games and concepts that we used to. We also get a lot of games that have a bunch of filler in them to make you feel like you paid $50 for a big game; MMORPGs are the worst offender, not least because you have to lease most of them on top of buying them at the store.
So don't worry about feeling like you don't have a lust for gaming anymore; your desire to get into older games that you missed should be enough to disprove that.
Oh, and you might want to think about investing in a console--a PS2 costs $130--since they have always had a much bigger audience and the trend towards big budgets hasn't hit them quite as hard. I know it's anathema for some PC gamers to consider the other side, but I don't think you can really consider yourself a hardcore gamer unless you're willing to play everything that's available. (Just noticed that you mentioned a 360. You should still get the PS2 if you don't have one--the 360 hasn't been around long enough, and ignoring the fact that the 360's backwards compatibility sucks, the XBox didn't get nearly the vast array of games that the PS2 did.)

Yea I played most -if not all- games listed so far and they're great even years later.
Somebody mentionned Hitman Contracts, but Hitman Blood Money (the 4th) is
much better : I'm playing it right now because I'm bored of all the games that have been
out lately and I gotta say this one is one the best gaming experience I've had in years,
there are so many ways to complete a mission it's not even funny, great great fun
and a very clever game, makes you wonder why you play all those mindless fps...
Oh and the OST by Jesper Kyd is unforgettable...
I also tried Deus Ex, because it's a title that often pops up in those "I'm bored,
what game do you recommand ?" topic... but even if I know it has a great story, I
couldn't get past the few first minutes of playing : I was really appaled by graphics... and
I finally deleted it... Yea I'm ashamed I may have missed a great game I know.
Grim Fandango is awesome too, give it a try if you can. I wish they did more of
those games for pc (but I know the sequel has been canceled).
Also you have to play Resident Evil 4, this is a real gem, even if the port is bad -
well less with the new patch- you can feel that there was a lot of work and love involved
edit : I'm 27 and totally in the same boat as you regarding games and the boredom it
often gives me, but the game I listed above definitely brought a lot of entertainement.
