These are the top 15 banned video games around the world. Believe it or not, Pokemon is on the list!

15. NARC was banned in 2005 in Australia. Why? In the game players are given the freedom to either play it straight or use the drugs they seize, with the drugs acting as ‘power-ups’ for the game characters. Using marijuana for example, slows down time, while taking LSD makes identifying criminals easier as they appear with devil heads. As a result the Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC) refused classification (RC) on the game.

14. 50 Cent: Bulletproof was banned in 2005 in Australia. Why? The Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC) said they were turned off by the arcade mode’s slow motion counter-kills methods. To quote: “The counter kills are enacted in detail, they are prolonged and take place in close up and slow motion. The most impactful of the counter kills involve knives and on-screen blood splatter. The Review Board determined that the impact of this mode was high and could not be accommodated at MA15+ classification. Therefore the game must be refused classification,” Maureen Shelley, convenor of the OFLC said. Truth is, this game should’ve been banned for sucking.

13. Wolfenstein 3D was banned in 1994 in Germany. Why? Germany has an extremely strict censorship on videogames, which results in enemies having green blood or ending up completely as robots. Because in this game the object is to kill Nazis (and thus it contains swastika flags or portraits of Adolf Hitler) it’s listed by German court alongside racist propaganda pieces and became forbidden.

7. The complete Pokemon series was banned in 2001 in Saudi Arabia. Why? The Saudi Arabia’s mufti, the highest religious authority in the conservative Muslim state, claimed it promotes Zionism [thinking the Star of David is in on the cards] and involves gambling. “It resembles a game of gambling because of the competition which at times involves sums of money being exchanged between collectors of the cards” Sheikh Abdul Aziz said. For the record, we do consider this a violent videogame for its forceful capturing of cute animals in tiny prison balls.

What the fuck is with these media "rating boards"?

Australia / New Zealand - You're in paradise already...stop trying to create a fucking microcosm and shielding yourself from the rest of the world, you have nothing to complain about. Poor Aussie gamers, didn't realize they had it so bad.

Germany - Yea...you had a shitty past. The world hates you. But banning anything and everything with even the slightest bit of WW2 or Nazism is in and of itself facist. By doing this you are upholding the very ideal you're trying to get away from.

China - Well.....that one I can understand.

E.S.R.B (America) - Fuck you and your fuckin clueless shit for brains suits your necks occupy. At this rate, I may be moving to Sweden or Norway soon.

These fucking idiots are going overboard with the censorship. Its a game. Entertainment. Just like movies. If your child is too fucking stupid to seperate myth from reality then get off your fat fucking ass and explain the difference to him. If he still can't understand it...shoot him. Laughing

But don't go complaining to the fucking clueless shit for brains politicians and making the rest of us (and games) suffer as a result. Either you're an incompetent parent or your child needs a little bit of schooling. Either way...its your problem..not ours. Fuck off with your ranting about games causing violence and being a bad influence.

In conclusion.....fuck "rating boards" (aka paid off fucking facists) and fuck people that bitch about games or movies being inappropriate.

Rant over.

Weird, They didn't list King Pin: Life of crime, that game was taken off all the shelves around the states a few weeks after release and was the only game I've ever seen shipped with a parental advisory sticker on nit.

With Australia, the problem is, their highest rating is MA-15, they don't have a 17 or 18 like other countries. So every game that isn't suitable for teenagers gets banned automatically.

As for Germany, you don't know how retarded this country really is. It's becoming a hell for videogamers. Worse than China, Singapore and UK together. I'm glad I'm from CH, but ask a Kraut he will confirm it Very Happy

UK usually isn't too bad, but banning Manhunt 2 recently has pissed me off. I mean it's probably going to be banned in alot of countries (USA included) but a simple solution would be for the game to be kept in storage or behind the shop desk and you have to go up and ask, while showing ID to get the game. So it's not displayed on shelves, that would instantly cut the amount of kids who would get it.

Also they should make it a finable offense to buy games for someone underage, and they should make this clear to anyone who goes up to buy it.

They have a system like this here in the states. A game like that will be in the system as 18 or over and you have to show I.D. to buy it. If not you'll have to go find someone who is. So why it would get banned here is beyond me, if your 18 and can sign up to die for your country, you should be able to play whatever the fuck you want without it getting banned. They should ban the military damnit, that's more RL than any FPS game around lol.

Unfortuatly in the UK at least it's not illegal for parents to buy 18 rated games for their child. However, I myself work for a game store and always makes sure the parents know that its a 18 rated game. Its quite sad really the amount of parents that don't actually care that their 10 year old son is playing Grand theft auto.

I agree tho, the rules govening the selling of video's/games needs to be in line with that of selling tobacco and alcohol.

Hooray for Canada! I love how lenient we are with our ratings. Half of the movies rated R in the US becomes 14A here or even PG some rare times, this is especially true in Quebec, where almost everything's turned into 13+ or 14+, even when they get rated 18A in the other provinces.

Or they can stop censoring peoples entirely all over this planet. Why are they so afraid of death? It's a pre-req for living! More importantly, why the fuck do we have a heirachy of morons controlling everything?

Thrill Kill was hilarious, I still own it. Midget on stilts, unstoppable.

I don't think it's as violent as say, the GTA series. However the darker tone may be off putting to the rating companies, nazis.

Did you ever get the secret Judas costume? He is both Ryu & Ken torsos'. Wish I could find a pic!

As an australian, never really noticed how much stuffz got banned. Don't really care for most of it, but all the friends I have that have played video games know about Carmeggedon. Heck I had one of those multi-game discs back in the 90's with all 3 carmeggedon's on it....

So I'm not sure how "banned" they are, but the upshot is that some normally 18+ games get rated at MA15+ instead. That and there's the internet Very Happy!
