|

Umm, I was asked today how does X360 look on a 17" -19" LCD PC monitor (some friend wants to buy an X360). Well I don't know myself so maybe you can help me (and him)? Is it playable? Will it play at the monitors rez or...?

Yes def playable. Won't get full effect of HD graphics or anything, but it will be passable. I think playing on a computer monitor, esp if its widescreen is way more preferable to playing in SD using a regular tv set. I prefer the clear picture of a lcd/monitor over the blurry low res tv screen, even if the sd tv is significantly larger. About the only cons to this is that he will be required to purchase the VGA adapter(40 USD I believe?) and has to sit pretty close to the screen. No sitting on the couch 6-12 ft away or anything. And the VGA adapter does a ton of resolutions so he should be fine.

I have a normal non-hd tv and text was very small. very hard to read most of the time and it was pretty annoying.
so I got myself one of those cables and now I'm playing 360 on my 19" 1280x1024 native LCD and it looks a lot better.

i ran i 360 on my 22 inch screen, 4ms reponse time, very washed out colors lots of blurring, a lot of poeple report that the colours are very washed out, i ended up getting a 42inch hd plasma, looks amazing,
i do think the crt may be ok though, but to get the best out of the 360 u gotta go HD
also if u think the360 on 19inch pc lcd is gonna look like it would on a 32 inch hd samung for example then it wont, pc lcd also struggle with the black colors very greyed out,
also i tryed n=many vga cable ms soft wernt much better than the third party ones.
at the the end of the day it up to u,

1680x1050 possible, but my plasma dont support 1680x1050, nor do the samsumg 32 inch hd ones which alot of 360 poeple use
i suppose if u pay top money for a pc lcd u might be allright

Max resolution is 1280x1024 and yes its a good alternative if you dont have a HDTV.

i connected once to iiyama 19" crt and i had a choice in res menu to choose 1600x1200
run on that res perfectly but flickering and black bars will screw everything up
360 can only run at 60hz, so it can be painfull for your eyes

stupid question alert
Why does everyone proclaim the awesome that is HD on LCD/plasma tv's versus pc monitors? Last I checked LCD monitors generally have a higher native resolution than tv's (my 22"@1680x1050 versus an "HD" lcd tv @1024x768)
Does my monitor not intrinsically have more "definition" than the equal size television, and does it honestly matter since both are capable of 720p? I'm going to have to assume there's more to being high def than resolution...
I wish I had the equipment, I'd love to have a 22" pc monitor and a 22" tv side by side running Dead Rising or Forza 2 and see which looks better.
As far as the OP, I have the 226bw Samsung running on both my pc and 360 (pc on DVI, 360 on vga) and I have zero complaints. Well, lack of 16:10 support could be a complaint, but everything looks good @1280x1024 set to Widescreen.
i can has computar?!

Do all xbox games have a proper 4:3 mode (as in no cuts or stretches) or will they run in 16:9 mode with black bars?

I bought a VGA cable off ebay for £5 (about $10) brand new and I use my 360 on a 17inch Samsung 740NW. Only downside is I can't sit too far away from the screen.
