|

My onboard sound sucks (i have a P5B Deluxe)... anyway, I wanna buy a new sound card.
X Fi wont work in Linux, cause there are no drivers? I heard creative might release them one day, but I wont wait.
Should I buy an (old) Audigy? Other brands are kinda rare and/or expensive here.

Just a plain sound blaster SE? I think I've seen those and the quality wasn't up against the audigy 2 but it certainly was better than onboard

Since it's for Linux as well, look at other vendors than Creative. Contrary to popular belief, their cards actually suck in sound quality. The only good thing they have is EAX, and that will be dropped soon with Vista (no hardware sound acceleration, the Alchemy is only for old games who supported EAX).

Suck?
I don't think that my X-Fi suck, perhaps it is because you can't afford one and listen to it yourself...

Perhaps.
For the audiophiles, I'd recommend an Auzentech.

I've seen a few auzentech models, but they are all much more expensive than the audigy se 7.1. Like 4 times more expensive. Is it worth it? I mostly listen to mp3 only.

Then I guess it's not worth it. It depends on your needs basically. Auzentech produce the best audio, but you need good equipment to actually hear that quality.

Alright thanks. I'll buy the audigy then, mostly because vista is becoming expensive already lol ... had to buy another gig of ram, and now the sound card.

OK man. You do know you can stick them both in, and enjoy you x-fi in Vista/XP, and keep the Audigy for linux. If you go that road, than maybe even something cheaper can be bought instead.
