- Genre: First-Person Shooter
- Release date: US: February 2008 // Europe: Q3 2007
- Story/Description:
Quote: |
Developed by Amsterdam-based Guerrilla, Killzone PS3 is a military first-person shooter that builds upon the 2004 PlayStation title. A non-linear and intensely cinematic gameplay experience that combines elements from multiple genres, Killzone thrusts players even deeper into the conflict between the ISA and Helghast. Set in a rich and highly interactive world, the game aims to set the benchmark for facial and character animation, advanced physics, destructible environments, sound and special FX. Combining on-foot and vehicle combat across air, land, and sea, with both off-line play and a customizable on-line portion, Killzone should be one of the premier shooters of the next-generation.

First ingame screenshot.
Looks on par with the source engine judging by the textures . . .

first ingame trailer of Killzone 2:
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/21504.html?type=
holy fucking shit... every article so far from gaming sites agree.. when they first saw it they had no idea they were watching ingame footage.
man that has got to be the closest realization from CGI to ingame footage i've ever seen. FINALLY something from the ps3 that truly delivered on its promise.

Are you retarded? Of course it wasn't, theres a vast difference between the CGI trailer released ages ago, and the trailer posted in this thread. It looks fantastic, but the graphics are only on a par with Gears of War in my opinion.

Watch the trailer, at about 02:10 you can see the player shooting over a wall, did they really implement a wall-covering system?

From what I have heard, Blu-Ray 2x (which the PS3 uses IMO) is slower than the (very loud) 12x DVD drive of the 360.
Thus PS3 games load longer. They try to get rid of this by putting the data twice on the disc (happened with Oblivion), so that the drive can find it faster.
More on that here:

Quote: | At 2x Blu-ray can read as fast as 12x DVD's minimum read speed. At just
3x Blu-ray is comparable to DVD at 12x; through the first half of the
disc 3x Blu-ray is faster, through the second half of the disc 12x DVD
is faster.
And at only 4x Blu-ray manages to best a 12x DVD's maximum read speed
by 9%. |

Haha, I think you're mixing up kill.switch and killzone, kill.switch being the first shooter that worked around the whole covering mechanism, but killzone on the other hand didn't have an option to really "get behind cover". |
ooohhh that's it!! lmao, was wondering why I couldn't find anything under kill.zone lmao. oops

Could you elaborate as to how it was 'total p0wnage'?

They totally pwned with make-belief titles not coming out for years. Meanwhile MS showed 99% stuff coming out this fall and holiday season.
Anybody can spend 15 million on a 30 second gameplay section, it's completely different to display your actual beta/alpha content as-is. More fairytales from Sony.
But I'm glad Sony are spending ridiculous amounts of money on Killzone2 because anything good that comes out of it will just help raise the bar in the industry.

^ i'm glad people can keep an unbiased point of view...
but hmm... two timed exclusives released before the end of 2007(haze and UT3), home features, MGS worldwide release in early 2008, GT5 prologue which looks better than GT HD at the moment, Uncharted, Heavenly sword, a new game called Infamous which looks like an acrobatic action game from the studio that brought people the sly cooper series, Little big planet, killzone 2 coming about 80% close to the trailer they showed us, the 100$ price cut along with the release of a 600$ 80GB version bundled with motorstorm and a new version of the psp... possibly lighter and with a brighter screen.
also the guy in blue(what's his name?) said they would have about 120 games at least out before the end of 2007(exclusives, multiplatform and of course PSN games.. not too sure if it involved psp games also.)
MS? showed games that were all multiplatform except the big three(halo, bioshock and mass effect). don't know the rest since i didn't follow them that closely and from whati've read the Wii conference was even worse.

I dunno about total p0wnage, seemed this E3 totally sucked compared to previous years, it was all business orientated and lacked any developer enthusiasm.
I think Sony had a better show but theirs also seemed a bit flat with countless multi-platform titles shown probably boring all the journalists whom had seen the trailers prior. I think MS are holding out for X07 as they don't wanna show all their cards this early.
As for killzone the original kinda sucked, this game definitely shows promise but I still don't think it's a Halo beater.
