I have never been a PC gamer. Mouse control is great, but WASD? Fuck off! I'd need a keyboard with properly spaced keys for that. Although, recently I have wanted to purchase the oh-so excellent "Sins of a Solar Empire" by IronClad Games. So, this brings me to a question.

Every time I've walked into a game store to purchase a game, the clerk asks which console I wish to purchase it for. Why don't game stores sell PC games? I could walk into several and not be able to buy a PC game. Why? I mean, this is even before the current age of digital distribution. What gives?

Are Gamestop, EB games, Game Crazy, and the like too cool for nerdy PC gamers? Do PC gamers just pirate their copies? Are Best Buy, Circuit City, and the like the best options for PC gamers? What gives?

Is it a marketing scheme? Are console owners more likely to need a game store of their own? What's the problem here? This is a serious topic, please discuss.

It's for the console gamers' parents. I can't even remember the last time I bought a game from a local store (and yeah yeah, I DO buy some, not just download all) - buying online is faster, cheaper and easier.

Consoles are far more popular for the newest games. It takes money, time, and knowledge to upgrade a PC. With a 360, PS3, or Wii, you already have the necessary hardware to play a game at the optimum level. With a PC, you must upgrade something every year or two, and most people are afraid to even open their computer. Although everyone has a computer, not everyone has a computer capable of running Crysis Warhead, STALKER Clear Sky, and whatever else. That's one reason the PC charts are filled with World of Warcraft and Sims 2: there is not enough demand for frame-crunching games.

I find that my computer is constantly behind the times, even after I upgrade. The gaming stores work on a supply chain...the demand is not there, and you don't want unsellable inventory to sit on shelves forever. I usually buy PC games at Walmart or digitally through Steam or whatever. But don't kid yourself: the PC gaming market is down in the dumps compared to 5-10 years ago.

Unless you are left-handed its NOT OK to use the arrow keys. Should be punished with jail or high fines imo. We live in a too liberal world when people can use their keyboard exactly as they want... its sad Sad

yeah but WSAD is ridiculous.

every gaming keyboard uses a separate pad for movement, not unlike using the numpad Wink

WSAD grows on ya, I played Tribes 2, CS, BF2 and tons of other online shooters where it became an extension of my left hand.

I have to agree with deelix
the arrows suck

WASD is comfortable for me. I enjoy using it (for everything other than sports games, but i hate pc sports games in general, console all the way for hockey and football games)

www.bestbuy.com

If your in the states, Best Buy typically has an ok section for pc games. Normally the best places to get PC games these days are places that sell Computers.

It's funny, I usually only use WASD for 3rd person games, and not even then all the time. Rest of the time I have forward on right mouse button, back on space bar, left/right on Q/W, then whatever more I need near the Q/W. Like E for use, R for Reload, A/Z for jump/crouch, S/D for leaning, and so on. Works great.

That´s some weird configuration, but use what works for you Smile
I rememeber using the right mouse button to go forward, I think it was with unreal 1. It came pre-configured with it.

I always used the arrow keys until I tried the wasd.
Back in the day there was no wasd configuration, and I was very used to the arrows.
But once I tried the wasd I felt my arms and hands position a lot more comfortable

I use to shop at the best place for PC games and that place was MediaPlay 2 large double sided shelves full of PC games and a giant bargain bin that would give you a cheaper price than you could ever find full of great older games. Sadly they went out of business quite some time ago. They had a huge selection of console games and even had demo stations long before places like Walmart made that common practice. I still to this day can't understand why more people didn't shop there as their prices were fair and would quickly drop as they always had to make more room for the new stuff.

EBGames then became my main source of games however once GameStop bought them it all went to hell. Even places like Best Buy just can't compete with my beloved MediaPlay...

oh and to answer you... The PC games are seen as a waste of floor space as even the worst of console games will sell more then the best PC games. The stores don't care about quality and why should they when people will buy anything.

It is considered a waste of floor space but it's because they can't buy them back and sell them used which is where Gamestop makes all their money.

Haha, in Poland there are like 6 or 7 long shelves with PC games, 1 small for X360 and one even smaller for PS3. I think PS2 gets 3 shelves. Consoles are not popular in Europe that much, lol.

There's people that use anything other than WASD? How can you not like WASD? It's comfortable, easy access to other keys often used.

Depends on the game, but I mainly use

arrows- movement
enter- use
shift- jump
ctrl- crouch
num 0 - prone/slowly walk
1 mouse button - shoot
2 mouse button - precision aim
mouse wheel- change weapons/radio stations
click mouse wheel- reload

This way I've got it all under my hand ^_^
