|
 |
So im thinking about getting a 360 since they are dropping in price alot, for the sole reason to mod it and played downloaded games.
Were there any major revisions to the hardware? i read alot about ring of death issues, has MS done anything to improve it? do newer xboxs have better cooling? does it affect european ones cause of the law in the usa that lead(sp?) cant be used to solder in those machines.
Wiki states that jasper is out in august, a revision to 65nm for mainboard and cpu/gpu which should fix heat issues and lower power consumption, any more info about this, worth waiting for?
Also wiki stated there are diff versions of DVD drivers, what are the best versions? how do these affect the possibility to mod them ?
I know almost nothing about 360s, so its up to you nforce pros to enlighten me !

Well they just came out not so long ago with a new falcon cpu which is the first major revision (supposed to fix most RROD problems, also has lower power consumption). At the time it was also known that these new ones (premium and elite) would be shipping with easily modable Benq drives (only need flashing), so I jumped in at that point and got one (Apr '08 ). 60 games burned later and I have no idea what to play I have so many damn games but only maybe 5-10 hours a week to play!
asus z170-A || core i5-6600K || geforce gtx 970 4gb || 16gb ddr4 ram || win10 || 1080p led samsung 27"

So benq drives are the most easy to mod? How could i know when ordering that there is a benq drive in it , has it to do with region, serial number, production date?
Is MS doing anything to prevent these mods? cause im afraid waiting for the new revisions they could include anti piracy meassures

EDIT: That list you provided is very interesting, looks like its all lite on drives being sold lately :-/

From lot number 816 its liteon, atleast its here in Holland.
Try getting one before 816 or 816 itself. (i got a 816 and have benq)

no. the dvd drive is "married" to the mobo via a unique id. it is possible to get this from the mobo but its more trouble than it's worth.

It seems that the drive modding is coming to a grinding halt with those new drives.
i7 3770k, GTX980, 16GB Ram, SSD Raid0, Internet 3rd world shit not worth mentioning

It may be that way. Of course I'm sure modchips will just be made for the new edition.

When you buy a XBOX360 and when you want to play backups on your XBOX360, Buy a XBOX360 with a "LOT NR" below 813..
813 and above can't be firmwared to play backups on it, They didn't have found it out yet though.
But that are newer XBOX360's that came in Holland 1 week ago.
My friend bought one with LOT NR 828, brought it back and picked the last one with Lot nr 811 at freerecordshop.
So thats my tip.

Try to get one below 813, Because we had one above and ofcource they had benq, but a newer version.. (DG-16D2S - That one can't be firmwared, they didn't have found it out yet.)

Benq can be modded, the new Philips/Liteon cannot be modded.
I believe you're safe up to lot 817, everything up to and including that can be modded, Lot 818 and above cannot be modded as they're the new drive, found that out myself last week as I bought a new Elite only to find out it was 818 and unmoddable, sold it 2 days later for a loss of £50, you live and learn, now I have to try to find a <=817 Xbox.

So have they effectivly routed out modding alltogether?

Well the new DVD drive is currently unmoddable because there's no way to read/write the firmware, so modding will have to be done some other way if it even can be at all. Lots of people like myself now hunting around for shops with old stock.
There's absolutely zero point buying a new 360 now for sake of "having a warranty" because any refurb coming back from MS will also have this new unmoddable hard drive.
