Very positive. Everyone at my job is too chill to pick fights. Closest anyone ever came to being fired is when our CEO got owned in HALO 2 by some programmer.
i have good expereinces and very bad ones, one place i worked was chilled, other was horrible, people bitchign about each other behind backs, and there was a big swinging dick all over the shop
When I was younger I had a bad experience. The older divorced (fat) women in the office hated me plus I was on the shy side. They never missed a chance to put me down. The funny thing was those were the women from my dept (and they all stood together) Everybody else in all other depts I got along great with.
I think it is important that when you start a new job to hang around the positive people. Hopefully the office has some. Don't get involved in the gossip. Be positive and friendly.
politics is in most aspects of life, its just really really subtle.
I hate having to play such games but some times you have to, have had good and bad expereinces but you just gotta have people around you that don't do that you can fall back on
I think it's pretty much the same all over and the specifics hardly matter. People fall into certain stereotypes and the relationships between the types are very predictable. Mostly it's a question of survival.
The types that I've come across till now:
1. The open slimeball - doesn't care what other people think about him and is only interested in brown-nosing.
2. The closet slimeball - pretends to be 'one of the troops' but is very insecure so often bends over backwards for authority figures and then spends lot of effort justifying it.
3. The rebel - doesn't care who gets offended by his actions and frequently ends up getting fired.
4. The rest - don't want to have anything to do with any of the above and are generally sheepwalking to get through the day. This group can be further divided up into further groups based on their mutual interests/gender/departments.
Not an exhaustive list since it's based on my own experience.
