If you check Rage3D you'll find a few people have the same issue, its possible something in the Catalyst opengl drivers went snap (seems to lockup too quickly to be heat related).
One thing i've learn't from upgrading to my first ATi card (X800Pro) is that if one driver revision fixes something, then you can be sure its broken at least a few other things.
