I have to make an access database for my father, but there's one thing I couldn't find a solution for : In one of the columns (vertical) I have to fill in the ingrediënts of certain stuff. Now my dad wants to be able to make a query and find one word, for example "apple". In this column there are multiple words: "1 apple, 2 mushrooms" as an example. Now when I make a query for another column with only one word, and filling in the criteria, I can find the result. When I run it for the ingrediënts column, it can't find anything. Is there a way to "fix" this? should I make different columns for every ingrediënt or perhaps sub-columns (if that's possible).
Thanks for your help, my dad wants this finished, he's starting to annoy me.

1.Try putting quotation marks around the word you are querying on in the criteria field. ie type "apple"
2. Use Like in the query. ie put (Like "apple") in the criteria field. Withouth the (). Razz

Been a long time since I used access so I may be way off.

In the long run I think you would be better off coming up with a more logical and ultimately more searchable database.

I already tried that... Any other suggestions? Or should I just link seperate ingredients to the different records :/

Try this in the criteria - Like "*apple*"

Dude! I owe you big time. Yeah, it seems like that works, I wonder why I couldn't find it in this access 2003 book I've been using. Smile

You're welcome. And most books spend the first 60 or so pages on really trivial stuff so by that time people tend to lose interest.

Btw if you're doing this to learn access then it's a good idea to just jump in and dig around and specific subjects you can always google up. But if you have no further use of learning access then you're much better off just searching for some program written specifically for cataloging recipes. I mean no sense in re-inventing the wheel.

Try this
