Bioshock

  • Official web page: LINK
  • Publisher: 2K Games
  • Developer: Irrational Games
  • Release date: US RELEASE: 21-Aug-2007 - UK RELEASE: 24-Aug-2007
  • Genre: FPS

  • Story/Description:
    Quote:
BioShock is a revolution in the shooter genre that will forever change the expectations for the FPS. Going beyond "run and gun corridors," "monster-closet AIs" and static worlds, BioShock creates a living, unique and unpredictable FPS experience. BioShock is the Shooter 2.0.

After your plane crashes into icy uncharted waters, you discover a rusted bathysphere and descend into Rapture, a city hidden beneath the sea. Constructed as an idealistic society for a hand picked group of scientists, artists and industrialists, the idealism is no more. Now the city is littered with corpses, wildly powerful guardians roam the corridors as little girls loot the dead, and genetically mutated citizens ambush you at every turn.

  • Features:

    Quote:
    * Take control of your world by hacking mechanical devices, commandeering security turrets and crafting unique items critical to your very survival.

    * Upgrade your weapons with ionic gels, explosives and toxins to customize them to the enemy and environment.

    * Genetically modify your body through dozens of Plasmid Stations scattered throughout the city, empowering you with fantastic and often grotesque abilities.

    * Explore a living world powered by Ecological A.I., where the inhabitants have interesting and consequential relationships with one another that impact your gameplay experience.

    * Experience truly next generation graphics that vividly illustrate the forlorn art deco city, highlighted by the most detailed and realistic water effects ever developed in a video game.

    * Make meaningful choices and mature decisions, ultimately culminating in the grand question: do you exploit the innocent survivors of Rapture…or save them?

  • Special Powers:

    Quote:
    * Hack and heal: Hacker's Delight is a tonic allows you to convert whatever machine you are hacking into a healing tool.

    * Drink to your health: Normally a drink will reduce your health levels, and can briefly affect your vision. Rapture has its own distilleries, of course, but with the Booze Hound tonic everything gets better with a glass.

    * Gives you swings: The Bloodlust tonic heals your body and your mind as you slash up the enemy. Be red-faced and red-handed.

    * The tonic that pays for itself: The Vending Expert tonic allows you to fool the pricing circuits at your nearest vending machine.

    * Meet the club: The Melee Master tonic bulks up your upper body, allowing you to wield club-like weapons with unprecedented skill and power.

    * Nail gun: Play emperor as you shoot blue bolts from your fingertips, stunning biological and mechanical targets ready to be hacked/brainwashed or finished off with your next move. Don't forget to try it out in water.

    * I think I can: As well as brainwashing, you can use telekenesis to control objects - bring them into your possession, or use them as shelds or missiles.

    * Snap, crackle and pop: With a click of your fingers, you're on fire - no, wait - your enemies are on fire. As the official website puts it so well: when it absolutely, positively has to erupt in flames, don't wait - incinerate.

    * Cold shoulder: Blast freeze your enemies and prepare them for fragmentation.

    * There's more: Lots more, but you get the picture. You can even get creative with your powers to design your own weapons.

  • Limited Edition:
    Quote:
The LE will include a Big Daddy figurine, a “Making Of” DVD, and a soundtrack CD. The LE packaging will also be an embossed graphic designed by the winner of the Cover Art Contest going on now at www.cultofrapture.com.

  • Collector's Edition:

    Quote:
The Collector's Edition contains the game in a limited edition embossed steel case, a Making Of DVD, Soundtrack CD, hand finished resin figurine (14cm height).

  • Demo Coming Soon?: ESRB's

    Quote:
The ESRB's German counterpart USK, reveals the existance of a Bioshock demo that is currently under qualification, and with the game being out end of August, we might be able to try the game on Xbox Live shortly ...

Demo comming soon, thats great!

One of the big ones this year. I´ll wait a little though before buy, there is another batch of games that is must buys as well. Depending on the reviews of course. If it gets 9+ and the demo is sweet I might just have to get it sooner rather than later.

wow great..thanks headshot. I hope the PC version is as good if not better. I have enough good games on the 360. But right now I really need a game to justify the pc upgrades done this year.

X360 will be region free
Quote:

The main version that supports EFIGS (english, french, italian, german, spanish) will be a worldwide release, so that version will run on machines worldwide. This version, however, is Unrated for Germany and will not be sold in Germany.

The special version that will be sold in Germany has a different rating and supports German and English languages only.

hahaha! Laughing

Eagerly awaiting reviews here. So far so good.

10/10 from officail xbox zine (UK) and 95% in pcgamer.

The hype is slowly rising for me. Not convinced yet. Well obviously it wont be bad, but the question is; how good?

so good it hurts

i experience this cycle with every good game:

agitated excited state few days/a week before release.

extreme mental excitement at release, screaming etc.

state of euphoria first few hours of playing the game, telling everyone that its the best game ever made during the intro sequence.

entertained 10 hours in, its a good game but realisation its just another game Smile

bored, dont touch it with a barge pole, game is completed/and or i got bored with it that i lost interest. wont play the game again for a few years.

I think this is due to visuals being the most important aspect for devs, instead of unique gameplay...

No it's because The Darkness is short and has a generic multiplayer. There are enough innovations in the gameplay to make it a fairly fresh experience.

I still think The Darkness is one of the best fps game on every platform.
I'm now playing it second time through with hard mode. I very rarely play any game twice these days or even complete once.
