yes a game you didn't knew it existed
from Irational

wait a minute you will say i didn`t seen or heard about this game ...
you mad

more like Irational
so was checking my ps2 games on my hdd .. more like finally getting the trash out and the good in... comparing list ect... when i see this "The Lost" a game from Ken Confused
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lost_(video_game)

Code:
The Lost's development period had always been relatively rocky. Playable models of the game had been described as unstable, with a jittery framerate. [1] The developer chose to switch to a different graphics engine partway through the project, moving from the LithTech engine to Epic Games' Unreal technology. Also, Crave Entertainment changed The Lost's traditional publishing model to a budget game model. Eventually, legal problems amassed, and the completed game was cancelled.

oh cancelled Sad

wait

Quote:
In March 2008 it was reported that all development and rights to The Lost was acquired by FXLabs, who later released the game for Windows PCs in India under the title Agni: Queen of Darkness. Agni is thought to feature redone art but keeps basic plot and gameplay elements intact.[2] FXLabs have released the game in yet another version, presumably for Western audiences, simply entitled "Inferno".

wwwhaaat ???!!! released

goggled it came across this
Code:
Irrational Games opened up its virtual "Vault," delivering information about its appropriately named PS2/Xbox game The Lost. "It was Silent Hill meets Zelda meets Devil May Cry in the sense that it was a series of levels in linear fashion, but within the levels, there was freedom," explained Games Design Director Bill Gardner.

Though Irrational decided not to release the project, it ended up making it to retail -- in India. Irrational decided to license the game to an Indian studio called FXLabs, whose CEO was working to build up the Indian game industry. FXLabs kept the game design, but localized it for PC as Agni: Queen of Darkness, even adding Bollywood actors. Above, actress Malaika Arora performs in a music video built around footage of the game.

In other words, there's an Irrational game out there you haven't played. Try to live with that!

Shocked
wait a minute i have this game

is it good ,
well lets say if this would have been released in 2003 then this game would been a GOTY

heh so there you have it a another masterpiece game from Irrational Games after System Shock , Swat 3 and Bio Schock series

Not really a game we haven't heard about before, I've heard of it quite a few times actually but I admit I never knew it was released in some form.

"Agni: Queen of Darkness" has Hindi audio and English subtitles. It's probably the best version for English speaking people. Good luck finding it online though.

"Inferno" which is the name of the localized versions in Poland, Russia (and maybe more) do not have English subtitles AFAIK.

In fact in the Polish version all the menus etc (all text pretty much) is in Polish so unusable if you don't know the language. However the Polish version has English audio I think.

The Russian version is said to be in RU only (audio + text) but I haven't tried it.

Anyone able to locate "Agni: Queen of Darkness" (I doubt you can, unless you find and buy a physical copy) should share it with the rest of the world. Sad

Ok. There's a US version as well. Which should be the one we are all after.

It is called Netherworld: Beyond Time I Stand.

It was sold by publisher Cosmi exclusively on Big Lots stores for $4. The only online store that sells it is: http://gamestore.revision3.com/games/netherworld-beyond-time-i-stand

If you click the link.. it even has a trailer.. which shows the movie theater asset Irrational used in BioShock: Infinite because "it was made long ago for a cancelled title" Very Happy

It's $20, DRM: Securom, and from an unknown store. I am wary of buying it. Anyone more brave willing to give it a try? And of course share it with the rest of us (although we will probably need a crack)? Razz

Here is what Irrational said about it: http://irrationalgames.com/insider/from-the-vault-the-lost/

Quote:
A few months later, The Lost was released and a few team members managed to get copies for themselves. Gardner recalls how surreal it was to the western eye, as the game was more or less the same when it came to the design. Beat for beat, the game was the same – the flow, the level structure, the weapons remained unchanged, but it was repurposed and redubbed for a different market. “You’re playing this game, this otherworldly version of a game you spent a couple of years working on, and it’s just weird,” comments Gardner. “You can’t wrap your head around how bizarre this is.”

With all the considerations and frustrations involved, this hasn’t turned the team off in the slightest. In fact, Gardner has found the upside to it all. “We wouldn’t have been able to make BioShock if it weren’t for The Lost. In a lot of ways, it was what BioShock wound up becoming. We had said with The Lost, we wanted to take a lot of what made System Shock 2 successful,” says the design director. “We learned so much from it, and learning to interface on a console game, while accounting for the tech aspects and considerations on all sides was, frankly, helpful.”

It's supposed to be pretty good.. and it's an Irrational game.. I want it Crying or Very sad

That worked, 126 SEK isn't really that much so I tested it. Smile

Does this work then?
https://pcgamestore.gs1.net/games/netherworld-beyond-time-i-stand/download/netherworld_beyond_time_i_stand_4013_setup.exe
(Needs a activation key, I'll experiment with that, maybe the DRM free exe from that other version I downloaded could work, Agni.iso or what it was.)

Oh sweet. But no that redirects and asks to sign in.

Upload the game if you can when you finish downloading it. Who knows maybe someone will crack it.

So that's how it works, well it'll take a hour to download at the current speed (Which is pretty low, download is only 1.5 GB.) but once that's finished I can upload it elsewhere and send a PM or some such.

Maybe test the exe from the other version as well and see if that works, it's UE2.x from what I can tell of the file structure so it shouldn't be too difficult to swap a few files.
(The ISO version only has one language but the exe could still be useful.)

I don't know what version you have (likely the Russian) but I am PMing you the Polish version's ("Inferno") DRM free exe as well.

I don't know how the game will be but I'm not expecting a triple-A budget title or anything, if so the game would have had a proper full release in major retailers and on multiple platforms.
(XBox, PC, PS2 and well I don't know what else.)

If I can have fun with a game like Torrente or other eastern-European budget games this shouldn't be too bad. Very Happy
(Many weird games have I played over these last couple of years, he he - http://www.ag.ru/games/torrente-3-el-protector/screenshots/191344 )

(Some of them were pretty good though, Hell Forces was fun as was PsychoToxic and Nekro-somethingIForgotButNotVision, let's not forget Ubersoldier series either or Mortyr.)

EDIT: Wasn't there some other game that was never localized, from the studio behind Mafia I believe, Chameleon.
(Byka, 1C and their weird releases such as Operation Matriarchy or Stalin Subway, 1C did a bit better though and also had some quality games localized.)

EDIT: Anyway I'm just babbling on while the download keeps going.

UW.exe from that other release with this downloaded version seems to work just fine, game starts and it's localized in English. Smile
(Plus the download was just a exe archive that could be unzipped and the Setup.exe in that and it's Data1.Tar file could also be unpacked so it was just to extract that and copy the exe over.)

(It's UE2.x as well so the game exe is just a small launcher and not really important other than for that function so using a modified exe shouldn't affect the main game data.)

Here is an interview he did about in 2000: http://uk.ign.com/articles/2000/06/24/ken-levine-on-the-lost

That was when the game was being built with the LithTech engine (it later changed to UE2).

Quote:
DS: Do you see yourselves as part of a wave of PC developers moving over to console in the near future?

Ken Levine: I think so.
We haven't abandoned the PC market entirely - in fact, our second title is a PC title that we're doing - but I think the console market, because you have a lot of PC developers coming over, is going to become a kind of melting pot. A lot of the things that people traditionally think about console games are going to start being influenced by these different cultures. Bring a lot of Spanish-speaking people into a culture and it starts being influenced by their culture. Eventually you don't even remember what comes from where, but for now, you're going to start seeing some really interesting spices, as it were, in console games, and we're going to be one of them. I think people are going to be surprised and intrigued by that. There are a lot of standards that people seem to follow, and we're going to be able to introduce a lot of things that people haven't seen before if they haven't played a lot of PC games.

The important thing is that you have to respect what the console audience wants - the fact that people aren't sitting two inches from the screen, the fact that they have a different contoller, you have to respect those things. But beyond that I think you can really surprise people.

Devil Troll

And this more recently: http://www.nowgamer.com/news/992683/bioshock_studio_cancelled_games_didnt_hit_quality_bar.html

Quote:
"I don’t know if those games – Monster Island and Division 9 – would have ended up hitting the quality bar. There was a game we did finish however, which was called The Lost. That was actually another IP that we did own, but that we decided not to release because it didn’t hit the quality bar.

The Lost was due for release on PlayStation 2 in 2001, but never saw the light of day.

"Let me tell you, we spent a lot of money on that project," added Levine. "At the end of the day we looked at it, we looked at how it was the first game we’d made on a console and it showed us that we didn’t really have the experience, as well as not having the support from the publisher to make up for that. At the end of the day we ended up just taking it back, spending our own money to buy it back and not release it."

It sounds like he thinks they lacked "console developing experience" and thus what they made wouldn't be a hit on consoles.

Well, the repurposed release is a PC port so Very Happy
