yeah I bought it yesterday and i'm pretty happy with it. great game, and while it's not very long, it's perfectly fine for 8€/10$
you can break rocks without weapons by spinning through the rock. turn the right analog stick 360° to perform the spinning move.

It's one of the best games I've played lately.
While it is definitely a short game, for 8€ anyone who complains about the length must be insane.
I'd say it has just about the right length, it's very innovative and simply a joy to play from start to finish.
Portal was very short too but that didn't stop it from becoming one of the best games of all time.

PixelJunk Shooter
- Platform: PlayStation 3
- Developer: Q-Games
- Publisher: Q-Games, SCEA, SCEE
- Aspect ratio(s): 1080p
- Release date: December, 2009
- Genre: Multidirectional shooter
- Mode(s): Single-player, multiplayer (two-player, leaderboard)
Quote: | In PixelJunk Shooter, up to two players can control their own subterranean vehicles to rescue a number of surviving scientists trapped underground. Using their ships' missiles, players can defeat enemies and destroy weak rock to progress through the environment. In addition to rock and ice, players must manipulate three types of fluid (water, magma, and a magnetic black liquid) in order to reach the survivors. Once each survivor is rescued or killed, players may progress to the next part of the stage. If too many survivors are killed, players are forced to quit or restart the stage. The game is comprised of 15 stages divided evenly among 3 "episodes", each episode ending with a [DIFFICULT] boss encounter. |
I think it's very good. It took a while to get its hooks into me, with its slow (though I suppose necessary) start, but by the time I'd completed a few of the first stages I was getting more and more engrossed as I progressed. I'm at the beginning of Episode 3 (which I'm guessing is the last episode) and I can say like the other PixelJunk games, Monsters and Eden, it's a must buy for any PS3 owner. It would be nice if there were a way to create and share our own levels though, especially since the physics are so much fun to play with.

...and that's it in a nutshell for me.

Just reached episode 3 myself. Fun game, love the physics. I hope they put out some (hopefully free) mappacks. Maybe even an editor.

Not sure, but i'm at the end of the 3rd episode and i'm at 2:30+ hours playing time, i am currently redoing the last episodes to collect enough gems to progress, so not sure what's coming next...
Don't let the length put you off though it's a really fresh and inovative little gem of a game

There are 3 episodes, and I'd say each episode is more or less an hour.

yeah it's something like 2-4 hours depending on how often you die.
you can go back to earlier levels to try and grab all treasures and survivors if you missed something the first time, and it also offers 2 player local coop which makes it all even more fun.
so while the game itself can be completed very quickly, it should definitely keep you busy longer than that, especially if you got a friend to play coop with
