wow, didn't see that one coming
I'm sure it'll rock, and armed assault will keep me busy until it's release with all the mods that are coming out.

It looks more like ARMA 1.5 to me, hopefully they'll tweak the engine because right now you need a NASA computer to max out the game :/

Looks nice. Hopefully they add a bit more to the final like destructible environments/havok physics to compete with the Slew of other military games coming out late 07/early 08. No offense to bohemia but its not the same environment as when they came out with Op flashpoint, though that was an awesome game. Just so many kickass games coming with features that boggle the mind, it'll be a tough job distinguishing their game from the rest.

ArmA 2 (also known as Game 2) is a new game been worked on by Bohemia Interactive Studios. It is the next game in the "Operation: Flashpoint" series following the previous sequel 'Armed Assault'. Though the game is still surrounded by mystery, Bohemia Interactive Studios has revealed during E3 that the game will have a roleplaying feel to it; with events in-game affecting your character and the entire campaign. Such an example would be terrorizing noncombatants and losing their trust, thus encouraging them to provide valuable information to enemy forces. A map the size of 650 km² has been mentioned in a recent interview with a BI representative. It is expected to be released in 2008. |

Nice one, hope they fix their animation system which in ArmA prevents you from doing certain things while another action is going on.

I wonder who here dares to say that their computer can run arma 2 on max. Not even the current arma with a power full processor and ram and a 8800gtx can run at max without having frames drops. This leads me to think that in order to run arma 2 i need a supercomputer which the parts are still not in the shops. So yes from the screen shoots it looks awesome. A delicious BTR-80 with a Bmp3 if i am not mistaken is something to drool about. But my hopes are low at the moment.

yea, 2008 is too soon
wait a while for the multicores to really catch on and come out so you can actually run more than a small bunch of AIs simultaneously

question is, does the game really need this computer power, or is it just unoptimized. i havent played ARMA so i don't know.

It's an unoptimized POS, clearly.

well screenshots dont look that good, certainly not up to the level of details of other games, and they run fine, so it is unoptimized pos lol.

Clearly. Because I can count on one hand the amount of games with this kind of scale, scope and detail. Oh wait, no need to count as there's only one game (franchise) and that's this.

Yeah, because clearly the developers need to render the whole huge playing area. And the beautiful, beauuuuutiful level of detail in this game of course matches the performance it gives //sarcasm
I rest my case.

Clearly.
Whilst you're sat feeling pleased with yourself feel free to inform me of one comparable game. Then once you've achieved that monstrous feat you can tell me one comparable game with higher levels of detail. Then (and only then) can you you 'rest your case'.
ArmA isn't a vacuous experience of linear run-and-gunning. It's a sandbox for war games.
Of course it's not perfect, and yes you'll have to turn down the settings for it to run smoothly - but once you get other that you'll not look back. Besides, people are still playing OFP today and I've yet to see a game that can compete graphically and retain the same credentials. Hasn't happened yet, not looking like it will happen any time soon.

Thank you for making my point for me. I am not complaining about the game - all I am saying is that it is unoptimized in the right sense of the word. As in even if you have the best hardware, you have to tone things down.

Jeez, some people can't separate gameplay from graphics. Ispep, no one is saying it's a bad game.
Unoptimized does not necessarily mean bad game.
