Confirmed for the co-owner, unconfirmed but hinted at for other Vigil employees.

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/185582/Cryteks_new_Austin_studio_could_be_a_second_chance_for_Vigil.php#.UQbxVmclyoJ

Quote:
Crysis developer Crytek is coming to America.

The newly-formed Crytek USA Corp. will be located in Austin, Texas, and headed by CEO David Adams, the former GM and co-owner of local Darksiders developer Vigil.

Adams will oversee a team of "35 experienced developers" consisting of "some of the brightest development talent in the industry," according to a statement given to Gamasutra. Though we've yet to confirm this for sure, a representative strongly hinted at the possibility that this staff may have several other veterans from Vigil, whose days appear to be numbered after bankrupted owner THQ failed to find it a buyer.

When asked if the new Austin studio was essentially a purchase of Vigil Games, Crytek rep Jens Schafer told us Crytek USA is "more like a new start for [the team at Vigil]." We're following up for more details.

A new studio could be good news for a crippled Austin game development community. In addition to Vigil's slow death, the last eight months alone saw a major reduction at Starhawk developer Lightbox, a near-shutdown of Zynga Austin, and a restructuring of BioWare Austin.

Crytek USA is the Frankfurt, Germany-based company's 9th worldwide studio, and its first in the United States. Its other studios are located in the Ukraine, Hungary, Bulgaria, Seoul, Nottingham, Shanghai and, most recently, Istanbul.

In addition to the Crysis and Warface series, Crytek is also the developer of the CryEngine game engine.

The company is currently working on Homefront 2, the license for which it acquired from original publisher THQ in its bankruptcy auction.

Not sure if good news or bad news, only time will tell..it all depends on what they have in mind. Hope they don't bastardize the formula with unnecessary additions.

If they're practically the same studio/core team under a new name (which is almost the case here), then Darksiders 3 won't be relatively apart from the previous two parts.

Well for me Crytek are white knights when compared to dev companies that have gone straight to shit (*cough*bioware), so I'm not worried about how a Darksiders 3 would turn out. More so, if like stated the whole new studio is made of ex-Vigil guys Smile

There will be differences but a different engine won't put in bland gameplay, cover shooting etc, which is what people are afraid of. They'll be moving on a better engine anyway, not a worse one.

That is impossible, as crytek will force them to use cryengine so they avoid licensing the old darksiders engine, so the game will feel completely different

That depends on how they code it.
Valve managed to pull that off with Source, even tho the engine is completely different, it does feel virtually the same as W3 engine and DOTA there. (in DOTA2 ofc)

That's bullshit, every decent engine can make a game look like Darksiders, it's just a matter of textures and some shaders.

Same as Free Radical then. Everyone expects of them to make a Timesplitters sequel. What does Crytek have them work on? Crysis multiplayer.

Yeah it sucks. Can't say I look forward to see what they are up to as I've been continuously losing interest in online/multiplayer games for past few months.

At least people over there haven't lost their jobs...yet.

Well Crytek did say repeatedly that they like where F2P is going, so I guess it makes sense they would be focusing on MP games.

Could also be connected to that project Vigil was working on before they closed?

Well, since they're part of Crytek now, they'll be following what Crytek's outlined for the company's future in the coming years.

Why did Vigil decide to join them despite knowing that Crytek's main goal was the F2P market from now on?
