Can't stand the Yogscast guys so... pass.
(Yes I'm basing this on me not liking the people who aren't actually involved with the coding process)

The idea alone sounds amazing. Not familiar with Yogcast, but I'd love for this to come to fruition.

Delete this thread and ban whoever made it NAOW. Theyre simply ripping off theyre already mindless zombie-like fanbase.
250K for developement of this game ? REALLY ?
Ripping of your kid viewers is so fucking stupid, even for Yogscast.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-07-17-kickstarter-funded-yogventures-canned-backers-given-steam-key-for-another-game-instead
Quote: | "As you may have heard, Winterkewl Games have stopped work on Yogventures - but this is actually a good thing," Yogscast co-founder Lewis Brindley wrote in an email to the game's 13,647 backers. "The project was proving too ambitious and difficult for them to complete with their six-man team.
"While this was Winterkewl's project, we put a lot of time, energy and effort into trying to help them realise their dream. Since we heard the news, we've been working hard behind the scenes to make sure that you still get awesome stuff and cool experiences.
"Although we're under no obligation to do anything, instead we're going to do our best to make this right, and make you really glad you backed the project!"
The first step of this is to give all Yogventure backers a Steam Early Access key for TUG, an open-world survival title that is already in development. Yogscast and TUG developer Nerd Kingdom last week signed an agreement to become partners on the project, replacing the role of Yogventures entirely.
"In many ways TUG is the game we were hoping Winterkewl would create," Brindley continued. "It has huge potential for the future. We've been playing the Early Access version on Steam and you'll soon be able to see us playing the game on Yogscast channels." |

$567,665 funded?
They can't make stuff happen with half a mil? Anyway, at least the backers get something...
I'm starting to hate these Yogshits. Mainly for that Yogsdiscovery thingy.

Love the yogscast, they make me laugh more than most shit on tv these days. Although this game was bound to fail from the start, they had no idea what they were doing or getting themselves into.

At times I wonder if I should make a kickstarter, people are used of pissing away their money anyway and maybe I could get myself a new graphics card that way
I'll call it: Bring me back to glorious 60 FPS gaming - Save me from peasantry Kickstarter
Sounds better than potato salad no?

So they get away with a half million.
And dont return the money?
They are worse than piracy.

"Thanks for the $600k, suckers"
Thieving assholes, basically. Ah well.. the KS bubble had to burst eventually, it seems that it did so very slowly.
~edit~
Predicted over 2 years ago by the developer of FortressCraft (and also audio designer on the Burnout series)
http://projectorgames.net/blog/?p=209

I predict a massive crash in Kickstarters in the future, just after a high profile game either gets canned, or massively underdelivers. (How that works remains to be seen; “You promised 100 levels, there’s only 99, I want my money back”)
I suspect I’ve also just located the game this will happen to.
It’s called “Yogventures”, and it’s a Minecraft-clone (in the correct usage of the word, as opposed to an insult).
They want a quarter of a million dollars to write this game. As indicated before, this SOUNDS like a lot of money. But that won’t run you a studio with 5 people for a year. And I mean cheap people; as a rule of thumb, a $25k developer is fresh out of college; he’ll cost you another $25k a year to look after (computers, software, taxes, accounting, expenses, power, heat, light…)
5 people. One year. All graduate level. Bear in mind that, to write a AAA game in one year would require a bare minimum of 100 people, and you’ll kill them in that time. Most AAA games these days have a 150+ team, and the big hitters take around 2 years to write (Put another way; AAA games take around 300 years to make)
|
I reckon he's grossly overstating how many people it would/does take to make AAA games, not many studios are packing 150+ man teams, they're just not .. but the gist of his point is certainly interesting. It's not hard to predict the crash of Kickstarter, too many indie devs wanting a slice of of the pie but without the culinary skills required to make it - or vastly overstating their abilities, at least.

http://www.polygon.com/2014/7/20/5920079/yogscast-kickstarter-canceled-yogventures-winterkewl
Supposedly they spent $35k on hiring an artist who took the money and then, two weeks later and without producing any work, basically ran off with it to start working for Lucasarts. Yogscast "lost faith" in the team after that and immediately demanded the remaining KS money be transferred over to them.
Plot thickens.
Considering how flippant and callous Yogscast have been about all this, not to mention the bullshit "we're not under any obligation to provide backers with anything", I actually wouldn't be surprised if this really was the case.

I wouldn't be surprised at all. I still think that the two main guys behind Yogs are just plain evil. Making their living off gullible children.

I've always had an icky feeling about Yogscast, they remind me of something and I don't know what. Like that "Goon" shit from SA, like a legitimised troll outfit that caters to teenagers. Either way, no matter who was at fault in this thing; the developers fucked up by taking on a project they had absolutely no way of completing .. and in the end it's the backers that got screwed.
