I'm looking for something that centers more around drug wars or current events. Any ideas?

tried "fallout tactics-brotherhood of steel"?...post apocalyptic strategy/squad based RPG

tis a few years old now, and not as good as the other two fallout games, but still worth a look-you didnt mention view, as in first person, third person etc..

The box version was an utter piece of manure. Try the original Fallouts. #1-2 are considered to be among the most amazing RPGs of all time. The PC's Fallout Tactics wasn't as good as the original Fallouts but I still enjoyed them (although not as much as the first two).

At the moment only the Fallouts come to mind that qualifies as modern/near-future RPGs. I'm tired to think more. Razz

Did they actually patch it to a satisfactory level?

I enjoyed what I played of The Fall: Last days of Gaia.

Was the international version of the fall ever released? I thought it never saw the light of day.

Jagged Alliance 2 is like a bastard child of UFO/X-Com and Baldur's Gate, only with hardened mercenaries, lotsa guns and oh so glorious (turn-based) combat instead of alien invaders or elves n' orcs. Though the meat of the game is the tactical combat, there's quite a lot of RPG in there, like making your own character, skills, a bunch of sidequests, some exploration, etc.

There's also a fan made patch/mod (JA2 v1.13) that's really pretty awesome adding features and content alike. Beware that the AI is a lot harder though, so you might wanna play the vanilla version first. This and some other pretty good mods can be found here.

<3 NeoCron

I haven't played NC2 though, broke my habit before the expansion came out.

Had a level 60 Tank on Pluto. That game was like crack for me!

I've been looking at Neocron. Seems fairly interesting theme wise (instantly reminded of Blade Runner) but the player base seems extremely limited . Think I'm gonna give that free trial a run though.

Thanks for brining it to my attention, not sure how I missed it

Neocron sucks... You still regularly CTD and it's the same bug thats been in since release. There is very little dev time going into improve the game, the company has pretty much given up on it...

Check the forums and notice the blantant lack of post about the game, instead it's all like "Whats your fav pancake sauce" or "If you use conditioner which one would you use" Sad

The community was strong when i was playing. It was a good game, but yeah sometimes when you would be moving into a new area the game did crash. It didn't actually happen that often for me. I think the userbase might be too small now TBH.

Another one I liked was http://web.archive.org/web/20070629025556/http://www.ausgamedev.com/
The Omega Syndrome. I bought it but I've formatted. Went to grab it again and it seems they've shut down. Not sure if you can still buy it anywhere or not.

well there was a game called 'dungeon cleaners'- a russian tactical/rpg sorta fallout..(some screens)
You and your team are send to a prison planet where some guys are building a rocket to get out and must stop them (basically)... it's pretty nice one, there are many quests, items and the story is ok. There are ...interesting.. themes and jokes, like about almost half the population on the planet being.. gays..Laughing and some nigga- jokes (i had to find an albino black dude called Jackson and kill him Laughing )

the games requires understanding of russian though.. Smile
