Ok so Sto0z asked me to get him a serial for Battlefield 1942 so I just offered to give him my old one. So I did, he goes to use it and somehow the planets collide and someone else has my key....how I don't know. I send EA an email to get it sorted out (including pictures).

Hi,
I had installed my battlefield 1942 game and to my amazement someone else apparently has my key which I don't understand how that's possible as I've never borrowed out my copy or even let anyone else have my key. The number is <insert key here> and assuming you like all companies want proof that it's mine, I'm sending a picture of my disks and key.

Hello,
Thanks for contacting EA Technical support.
I understand that you are having problems with Battlefield 1942 and I apologize for the inconvenience. I may ask you first, what is the exact error message that you're having? When does this error message pops up? Were you able to play the game before with no problems with the serial code?

Stooz and I both now are dumber for having to read that awsome "tech" reply and I'm still trying to figure out how I can dumb down my email back to them so they can understand. Must be outsourced since proper English isn't native to them. "When does this error message pops up? Nice support, they can't even spell right, SPELL CHECK FTW!

Well, since you work with EA I would expect you to know that if someone else uses your key, it kicks you out and says "CD KEY IN USE"
"When does this error message pops up?"
LMAO! Well, WHEN MY KEY IS IN USE!
"Were you able to play the game before with no problems with the serial code?"
Oh well DUH. I'd say it'd be pretty shady if my key was in use when I bought it brand new years ago.
I'm not normally a jerk but jeez, EA's quality is seriously going downhill and then I get some "tech" response asking questions that are already obvious and in the email I sent.

Copy/Paste tech responses are global, not EA specific. No publisher ever gives you a half assed answer. Look at Blizzard, they do the same.
Granted, let me point out that I also think/know that EA's support is shit, as is a lot of the stuff they do.

That looks (almost) like an automated response. But let me tell you my experience, mine was worse....
I had an original Half-Life game before Steam, but when Steam came out, the key should be valid (they said so on their website).
I tried to register it and... "your key is already in use, if you are the legitimate owner contact us, bla bla", and so i did, telling them i would be glad to send photos of the box, the disks and the stickers, along with anything they required.
Their response: I needed to send the original disks to them, along with the original receipt or an authenticated copy of it. Shipping paid by me, and MAYBE then they unlocked my key.
Where it gets worse: Games bought over two years from that date have no possibility of unlocking the key to its rightful owner, i was stunned,i had bought it over two years and i had no receipt... further mails were useless, so much for a great gaming company uh? From that day on i embraced piracy

lol I got one email from them awile back from me telling them they have lost my buisness do to their incompetence and they sent me an email back saying it doesn't bother them, one lost customer won't hurt their sales. (my keys were magically invalid on the internet for tiberian sun and firestorm but installed with them just fine)

Had this happen to me in WC3, and on blizzys site it says that duplicate keys are produced and its not that uncommon, but they expect you to ship your cd case out to them, pay for shipping, and wait 6-8 weeks to get a new one. Luckily the guy who has my key barely ever plays.

Reminds me once i bought City of Heroes Deluxe, installed it, entered on plaync account a cd code and it told me that its been already used, after few days of talking with support dudes, they apologize and give me new code + 1 free month!
That was good end, but bad end comes last year.
I ordered WOW Burning Crusade Collectors Edition and like others i needed to send some stuff to Paris to have pet enabled, we send it with mate together, he got it activated, me dont, lost by post office? maybe, but i been unabled to communicate with them and get a pet, even if i proposed to send some other stuff, so no e-penis enlargement this time :-/

The very few times I've been in contact with EA I have received good answers, fast replies and pretty useful support. That was the case with Battlefield 2 at least.
Behold his GLORY! Bow for the technical master!

No, he WANTED to give his key to StoOz, but when they tried the key, it said it was already in use, even though he wasn't using it, so it means someone else must be using it.

Ok maybe EA response sucked (they need to be sure and ask more info, kinda normal) and your reply might be funny if you really want to sound like a jerk to them, but I don't understand what's wrong... you gave your key that's your fucking problem!
Most game company tech support must be 16 years old kids paid at minimum salary anyway, give them chances |
lol read a bit closer As the above post said, I was GIVING my key to sto0z and when HE tried it he got key in use, which is BS cause I don't hand my key out to anyone. I was giving it to him to keep since he'd make use of it BUT seeing as someone else has it.

Suppose that makes you fit in here but.
Personally receiving that I'd laugh at the stupidity and make some comment like "Kids!"

Or it means the CD-Key was already registered to his EA account from when he was using the game, and when Stooz tried to use it on his account it caused a conflict. They don't have to both be using it at the same time for it to get banned.
Seems Spykez has some sort of childish vendetta against EA anyway. Being aggressive in your dealings with them will get you nowhere.
Come on, you can't be that stupid to think it's a coincidence that your CD-key just happens to get the 'in use' error after you give it away to someone else.

No account is associated with a BF42 key, and it had been played on for hours before the kick and error.

The online key system is going through Gamespy Arcade, not any central EA games server methinks. Anyways, don't expect any help, seems like this is a Hot Potato issue, where each side is not going to help you, but keeps redirecting you to the other sides.

i've bought BF1942,vietnam,BF 2, BF 2142, never ever hade any problems with any of those. maybe im just lucky. but dont think so, i think animal mother is correct, the key is bound the the account, tho im not sure. but kinde of sounds like it, since you hand the key to stooz, he can play for a bit, then boom, key in use.
