Someone once said that this (game) forum wasn't half bad. So I thought to myself, why not try a social experiment. I ask everyone to actually post something relevant to the topic, and hold one line comments to yourselves. I'm assuming this is a legal request, and if it's not let a moderator prove me wrong. Again, the idea of this thread is that posts would be interesting to read. So don't post things like "oh, man this game would be so cool" or "your thread sucks". If you don't like it, just don't post anything, and then I'll know. Deal?

Think of it this way. Does your current post have a game idea in it? Or is it a comment? If it's a comment, don't post it. Naturally it's allowed to take someones idea and toy with it. Just don't make a one line smart-ass remark, that's all.

Okay, so I'll start. A was playing wow for a while there, after its Europe release; and it didn't impress me much. I wanted, one thing in particular - I wanted to be able to effect the world I'm playing in, for example take over an enemy city or something to that effect. And me and a friend of mine started talking, and came up with a few concepts.

We want a MMORPG that models a mafia ridden city. It's open ended, and anyone can do pretty much anything they chose. There are practically no NPCs. The game is set in a town, that initially has very little life in it, and as players join they take over what little NPCs were there to begin with.

There are three factions, the cops the mafia and the merchants. You can join any faction you want, all of them or non of them. Unlike Wow, this is a game of actual stealth, so for example if you are a mafia cop, and the cops find out, you'll be in a world of hurt. The idea is that groups organize themselves and you build hierarchies, so for example you may start as a cadet and advance to be the chief of police.

Before I tell you what I think the characters should be like, I want to clarify what type of rewards i want to reap from playing this game, so I'll just make a few scenarios to illustrate my point.

For example the mafia would want to rob a bank, which by the way is owned by a group of merchants, and is policed by - you guessed it - the cops. So they come in with guns, and the feel of this is very CS-like. You shoot the cops, the cops shoot back, maybe more call for backup and if you planned it right you get away with the cash.

The criminals don't have a special mark on them to identify them as such, and that everyone is a fair game. You can try to kill anyone, in other words. When you die, you go to a hospital and whatever was on you is lost, but if you have a stash of things it's not. Of course, that's assuming you got medical ensurance, otherwise you just perish, and have to start over; which in itself isn't even that bad, because I want skill to matter much more than the amount you've spent online.

So consider a simulation of a city, where violance is very commonplace; but where one player could have a very substancial effect and influence on others. I want the feel to be that of GTA when you travel about, and that of CS when you are in a shooting war. Killing someone for no reason would be a bad idea (heavy fines for example), and the goal would be to have the city under your control. Different factions represent the different types of player. Some people like to kill bad guys, some people like to be the bad guys and some people just like to grow in power financially.

I think that the merchants deserve a little better definition. Well, for example you could have your own shop where you can sell anything you want (guns for example), and you could be a driver delivering goods or services. And as you advance and amass more and more resources, you can buy information, make public announcements, etc. I don't want this game to have a remote chat function, but rather if you want the world to know something, you better put up your own billboards etc. A handyman can do that, and that handyman might even be an NPC, but the price you have to pay for such a billboard could be regulated by the public office, elected also in the game. Inflation for example is combatted with taxation, living expenses and basically limiting the welth of the world - there shoudln't be infinite pools of cash.

As for characters, they don't gain any skills, they don't gain any more hitpoints or magical abilities. They can for example learn how to drive a bus, or how to use a particular weapon.

Basically this is a game I would like to play; because I don't have to go into all the depth of it to enjoy it (I could just have very good aim), but the depth is there, and you can feel effecting other people and influencing the game you are playing.

I'm sorry if I'm not making much sense, but I've never written it down and so it's presented in this assoreted, hard to follow manner. If you have a comment in the department of "this game would rock" or "I could vomit a better game", please refrain from posting that in this thread. If you would want to change or add something, that's okay; as long as you contribute something meaningful.

Again, this is a social experiment - for one, if people can follow an instuction, without being offended; and if people actually want to have threads that only have meaningful content.

Cheers! I hope you got some interesting game ideas!

Me and a buddy were discussing a game a while back back about a Zombie RTS to say and posted it awile ago, here's the post:

myself wrote:

we actually just spent about an hour comming up with a whole new RTS idea that were going to introduce to relic and by gods I'm going to fuckin bug the hell out of them about this till they fuckin accept the idea haha.

Heres what we have so far.

As strange as base-building zombies sounds, we have considered a number of options. Our concept involved urban or suburban environments, with an emphasis on utilizing existing neutral buildings rather than constructing new. Our ideas generated three initial sides: Zombies, Civilians, and Scientists. Zombies are primarily slow-moving, and each attack provides a chance that the damaged unit will become infected, with a countdown timer until it converts. Capturing neutral buildings allows for zombies to convert trapped survivors into zombies at a fixed rate, likely with an upper limit. Upgrades (gained by capturing particular building types) include a higher chance for infection, reduced countdown timers, or the ability to progress the unit tree – faster zombies, stronger, stealthy, or flying types all spring to mind.
Civilians are primarily weak melee types, with room for promotion. Units that kill enemies find improved weaponry, gain speed, health, etc. Upgrades include police or SWAT forces, repairing / utilizing abandoned vehicles, etc. Capturing neutral buildings would allow for recruitment of survivors at a fixed rate, much like the Zombies. Civilians would be able to build structures such as barricades or watchtowers. In addition, their forces would have excellent exploration abilities, as they know the area they live in. Instead of general upgrades, emphasis would be placed on individual unit promotion.
Unlike the other teams, Scientist forces center their operations around a single research center. In addition to low-level employee units, internal security forces are available. Upgrades include mechanical and chemical weaponry, and capturing of Civilian / Zombie units for research is necessary for the higher-level technologies. Capturing neutral buildings could provide research subjects, or a chemical hypnosis / mind-control agent could provide a supply of low-level units. Scientists are able to build traps of varying degrees, based on technology. Land mines or automated defenses seem likely.
Numerous types of neutral buildings can serve purposes. Police stations or armories/military depots could provide weapon upgrades to Civilian units, chemical plants could mutate Zombies or provide research material for Scientist forces. Industrial plants or factories could provide raw materials for constructing structures and houses / offices / hotels are full of potential recruits for any side.
Our concept involved a battle over a blasted cityscape, with an emphasis on neutral buildings. Each of the three sides (Zombies, Civilians, Scientists) attempts to capture these buildings, which are the source of resources and recruits.

Our main reason for comming up with the idea of it is zombie games don't really exist, much like western games which I'm also still waiting for. But the above zombie RTS I would love to see.

I think an RTS based in Rokugan of the Legend of Five Rings world would be badass. They've already set up the different races (i.e. clans) with strengths/weaknesses. Also have a sweet backdrop to fall back on for storyline. Here's a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rokugan

id had a similar idea a few years back, but based on the lotr battles... imagine a third or first person game where you arent the hero, your just 'some guy' in the middle of the battle... you dont give orders, you take them... and every single enemy doesnt ignore everyone else and always target you, they fight whoevers closest... and other people on your side actually fight and do damage back to the enemy, not like most games where both sides just attack each other, and nothing happens... the goal would be to put you into as realistic an experience as possible.

but none of this holds a freakin CANDLE to my other major game idea, that some day, i WILL make a reality.

Warhammer MMOFPS, with thousands of NPCs to continue the fight while you are away. Guilds can be regiments, with ranks such as captain, liutenant, general, so some people can have a tactical overview while others do the dirty fighting.

Pretty much like Natural Selection on a massive scale.

I just like see game that really give a true choice for outcome of the game. You get to a certain point in the story and based on different choices, you can go several different ways. not just all one sided, Like your the hero or not the underdog. I rather have at least 5 different choices to choose from and based on what i would choose,

Like becoming the king for example & the game would shape the world based on my choices and actions and branch off from there. Like being a evil king or good king ect. But most games are so liner you go here do this do that all in name of good to save some old hag.

I know there is a few games out there, that offer a bit of this but not much of choice is given your still just hero and you there to save the land.

I also like the battles to be bigger and more real looking, If i catch house on fire it should burn down not just burn forever.

my idea that i came to is this: tactical/fps/3rdperson/rpg/rts/action... with head slicing off sword action and city sieges and arrows flying!!! Rome Total War Online (just to hint at the timeline and theme it would be )!! where players (and ofcourse AI characters) are the Soldiers/spies/assasins/generals and even emperors (then it would be kinda like a rts game for the player.. managing things+takin part of battles as the faction leader etc) and ofcourse the games mission would be to take over certain regions or well destroy every enemy. or die fightin (or if the empire gets smashed up then no other player can join it anymore ofcourse, and the remaining player/ai characters become Mercenaries, or maybe they still stay loyal to their destroyed empire and fight to the last man trying to rebuild it...)
and it wouldnt be about gettin the darn best armor/weapon or to be ruined by magic and shite like that.
