I personally use the Motorola V325

Link

Great recpeption and can take a beating. I've had this same phone for over a year, tho I'm on my 2nd one since I dropped my first one in a toilet (don't ask), if I had to get another phone I wouldn't think twice about getting another one. I'm not one about features, I like my stuff simple and to work. This does just that, it's got a good amount of features and serves it's purpose. It's never even frozen on me.

I wouldnt call a W800i a cheap backup-phone..

A Nokia 3330 or 3310 are very easy to use and can also take a heavy beating. Probably more then most of todays tech-filled ones.

well how cheap is cheap?? Considering the latest phones can cost £250+ I think £40 - £60 for a W800i is great value and for a backup phone its excellent (Great camera, great MP3 player, upgradable memory via Pro Duo card, easy to use etc).

Or when you say cheap do you just mean a £5 Nokia 3310??

Well I would check out craigs list or a similiar sites. I see free phones on there all the time and all you have to do is take over someone's contract (which isn't what you want). You could always put a wanted ad on the site. Lots of people are into recycling their stuff. They won't do the fancy stuff but would work as a back up.
