I'm thinking about buying a new GPU. Currently I'm using ATI Radeon x1800GT and find that BioShock doesn't run that smooth - and I'm thinking well then Crysis won't either, and any other games along the way won't too. Even Overlord causes some frustration over small fps.

Yes, I'm a brat who could by all means turn down the level of detail and the res, but I prefer to spend money on new GPU's rather then compromising. So here are the cards I'm thinking of buying -

Ati Radeon X2900 HD XT or gForce 8800 GTS.

An suggestions on other cards? And the question on the title still counts - should I wait until DX 10 and Vista get more stable?

I'd say wait till next spring (if you can) when Nvidia will hopefully release their nextgen midrange cards.

Ya I'd say wait for the new 9 series. If the 9 doesn't interest you then still wait cause the 8 series will drop even more. If you can find a cheap 7900 of any kind, GS, GS KO, GT etc pick one up. I overclocked my GS KO and it ran bioshock on max (minus soft shadows or whatever) and it's still rocking anything I can throw at it. If you use eVga you can just use their step up program which has a 3 month time limit from the day you buy your card (retail) and only pay the difference to a higher card.

depends what kind of money you wanna spend , 2900pro just came out for around 220 euros here, anything above that is overkill for now , but then again ill have to see crysis first hand if that statement is still true

But if you can wait a few months , DX 10 still isnt worth it till crysis , and even then , it will be a long while before anything else worth mentioning using DX10 is out , i say wait a few months till the new cards are out , and get the mid end version , unless you have the money to waste on high end .
