Anyone here play it? They've released a new version (which i just noticed 5 minutes ago) that adds tons of new features. This is gonna fucking rule compared to the previous version.
For thos who don't know, M&B is basically a game set in the middle ages in a fictional continent. You basically play a a man/woman (you can choose your gender), and you run around and do the good old Elite/Sea dogs/Freelancer thing. Trade, fight, do missions and so on. The fighting however, is where the game shines. It has the most awesome fighting in any game, PERIOD. You can fight either on foot or on horseback, using all kinds of different weapons. Swords, axes, clubs, spears, lances, throwing spears/axes/knives, bows, crossbows. There are many different horses too. Some are fast, but weak, so they collapse much easier from their injuries, leaving your stranded on foot against potentially mounted foes. Others are heavily armored, but can't run or maneuver as well. It also has per pixel blood effects, which means enemies get bloodied where you attack them. It's especially fun to throw a javelin into someone's face and watch it go all red.
The new version though, adds tons of new features, such as ragdolls, and fief management. In the previous versions, the only means of making money was doing missions for lords, trading, or selling equipment you captured from dead enemies. Now, you can conquer villages and lands, and rule over them. They not only make you money, but also supply you with troops. You can also upgrade them for added benefits. Anyway, this is so going to fucking rule. Anyway, i bought my copy of the game ages ago, and i've never regretted it. This game rules so fucking much. You all should really buy the game. They have a special offer, where if you buy it before it reaches version 1.0 (it's currently at version 0.890 beta) you get some money off. Once it reaches 1.0 they'll start charging more, so buy it now.
The official website is here:

I really didn't like the game, it was too clunky, looked kinda ridiculously low-budget , but I didn't invest any time in it. I expected more after looking at those screenshots ...
But, it's a small download (76mb) and it's not a demo, it's the full game with a level limitation, I recommend to try it out, some ppl might find that "it fucking rules so fucking much!!!"

Yeah, i discovered this game some weeks ago after a post about middle age games.
I'm totally addicted now.
Good & realistic battle system, many mods, so fun to have an army of many differents men with you.
If you like hudge battle with archer,cavalry..etc then give it a try, really worth it.

I've kind of refused to play the game after seeing the demo had no streaming world but more a collection of individually modelled locations. Dunno, the game just cries for a real fre roaming experience but whe i saw it didn't have one it kinda lost its attractiveness to me. Maybe I should give it another chance... Nobody knows if the dev team is planning to update the engine so a real streaming world would be rendered?

Sorry to break it to ya, but most people know that they aren't gonna do that. It's at version .903, so they'll probably not switch around a core engine design now.. Maybe for M&B 2, who knows.
Oh besides, it's the fights that make the game. Try the demo!

For me the same... I also got interested because of the meddle age games post.
I'm now playing with the Mod Band of Brothers and its really a lot of fun.
I recommend this game to everyone cause i'm pretty sure you all like it
especially with all mods that are available.
Most mods are bigger then the game itself and there are also graphics and sounds enhancments patches available.
I'm totally in this game now and started yesterday with the band of brothers mod.
So i'm level 7 at the moment.

I agree... It's a cool idea and all, but if i want something like this i just install Oblivion again with a few mods; like mounted combat, there's even beheading, cutting off arms, hands, cutting people in half (if you're into that sort of thing ). There are a lot of different mods to recruit people too if you want an army with you.. + it has better exploration, better combat, better graphics, unlimited amount of quests, (almost) unlimited character customization (using mods)...
I tried it for a 1-2 hours, it has a retro-feel to it which is kind of charming, but other than that.... It's possible that its more fun using mods, havent tried it.

Shit I love the battles in this game but now that you mention it, Oblivion with a similar companion mod would fucking kick ass! well as long as they raise their swords and scream in victory anyway, I love that.

This game is OK,
but crappy AI means that you can kill 30 vikings with a sword and a horse, which is not oK
this game is broken.
Burn them all Adolf

1. get newest version (.903) from forum link
2. don't cheat
3. ramp up difficulty level (damage taken = normal, ai = good, speed = faster)
4. death by sea raiders
vurt: Game is more fun with mods, but there are not many good ones available right now.. Band of Brothers, Expanded gameplay II. Gets old too fast for me. Waiting for the new Bandit King

Same here!
Played the trial and bought a license as soon as I hit the level cap.
Now i'm trying out the different mods.. EGII at the moment which i think adds a lot to the fun factor. I can see myself returning to this game a few years down the line which is a lot more than I can say about most games i've played recently.

Yeah, i bought a license almost 2 years ago, and i still play it. And it feels good to support such a small developer (up until version .890 it was developed entirely by 2 people).

Powerdraw along with the weapon skill helps get the reticule down. Have a little (1 maybe 2) more powerdraw than the bow you're using. And practice helps alot in judging distance, adjusting for gravity, leading targets, timing shots with the pull. Oh and if you're on a horse with little-to-none horse archery, stop the horse completely before you shoot.
Headshots are fun tho, and you can really decimate an army without getting anywhere near danger (provided you master horse archery).

I like using the muskets, low accuracy compared to a crossbow but massive damage and high projectile velocity.

My favorite is Band of Warriors Expanded. You get the flintlock firearms included which in my opinion adds a whole new dynamic to gameplay.
You also get loads of new classes to choose from at the start. Plus a hugely expanded arena in the starting town where more advanced matches open up as your renown increases. You can actually earn real money from it now.
