Can a new company you'r going to work for demand salary info from your previous job? I mean, can they ask me to put forward evidence of what I last earned. Reason I ask this is cuz I do not want them to know how much I earned and whether or not I got any money for gas, etc...
Biggest reason ofcourse is cuz they might look at those wages and give me one little dime more and be done with it, cuz I think they'r asking it in order to ascertain how high they'r gonna put me on the scale. Cuz think of it this way, if I don't give away this info, atleast they'll be basing my wages on my knowledgelevel and experience and not on a random flipping number some smucks in the past decided to pay me.
Anyone know what I should answer them if I don't want to give up this information, this reply should ofcourse be smart and not seem like I have shit to hide.
thnx

Well not really, cuz they already hired me sortaspeak, I start next week, its just this money business that isn't fully dealt with yet and I still have to sign my contract, but the go-ahead is already there(other possible candidates of the job have all been shown the door).
So again, what the hell should I do, I gotta give this alot of thought or I'm gonna get the short end of the stick. I'm allways unlucky when it comes to stuff like this and I can see it happening again here:( The main problem is, all my last jobs were via interim(I think the english term is outsourcing or something), and you allways get paid less via interim then you get when you get hired directly by a company(which is the case now). So if I show them lower wages then what they'r offering, I am fucked bigtime.
So any tips are welcome. And the country is Holland, so dunno if you'r familiar with laws there.

Tell them to fuck off. No really, lots of good stuff can be found via google
http://www.google.ca/search?q=disclosing+previous+salary
this seems to be a pretty common anxiety, so I think you should just read some advice on how best to disclose your salary, and why this new position is different and has more responsibilities etc etc.
here is some advice from one such google link
Quote: | * Don't disclose it unless or until you've been asked to do so.
* Don't lie about it. Be accurate about your previous salaries because some companies will verify or request this information from your previous employers. If you're caught in a lie, it can obviously result in not getting the job or being fired if you've taken the job under false pretences.
* Prepare for the Negotiation. Remember, you will need to demonstrate effectively and persuasively why the salary you are asking for is appropriate for your talent level and value. Therefore, do some research:
o Review average salaries for your level of experience, education, etc. Use sites like www.salary.com to research salaries for the type of industry your potential employer is in, and geography.
o Take into consideration the demand and supply for your type of skill. For example, if you have a specialized skill in short supply, you can ask for a higher salary. On the flip side, if there are a lot of people with the same skills as you, you can expect salaries to be lower.
Salary negotiation is always one of the hardest parts of job searching. But, if you are well prepared, it will make the process a smoother and more successful one.

I wouldn't give it out. You might not get hired, but I doubt they would trn you away over such a minor thing. The only thing that can happen is that they give you a lower salary than they could have given you.
They are allowed to ask for pretty much anything, but you aren't obligated to answer.
You applied for a job at a gemeente or semi-overheid? They like to do this, and use your previous salary to scale your new salary.
Do be aware that sometimes people will call up your previous employer and ask for your salary. It's illegal to give it out, but it still happens.

Its indeed a states position(in dutch you call it an ambt), and yeah they would like to use it to scale me, but I am not gonna give out my salary cuz they'll just use it against me. If I would do that then they would be comparing apples with oranges, cuz if you worked in a previous job via interim then atleast 15-20% goes to the fucking interimleeches and the rest is the salary you get, thats alot of money you'd otherwise have if those leeches weren't stuck inbetween.
I think you'r dutch Rinze, so I'll send you a PM what I am gonna send them, and you let me know how it comes across ok? Its something I wrote up quickly, its still first draft version so I'll still change certain sentences not to come across too blunt. Maybe you can help me out a bit:)
And thnx nouse, I'll heed your advice as well, not in that many words but....
