Just got a new box up and running, and I want to rock an FPS online, but I'm up in the air as to what to play. I have CS:S... just doesn't do it for me anymore.
Of the new FPS games, which is the best online.
Please let me know if any are missing so I can add them.. but those are the 4 big most recent.
Opinions, rock em out.

I should add the specs of my new box as to point out hardware won't be much an issue here.

They are all really good
Take the one which Graphicsetting you like most!
And dont forget that you need a good computer for Crysis MP (graphiccard is most important - 8800gt(s) and better)

crysis easily... the broad range of tactics and ways to play makes it one of the most interesting and enjoyable multiplayer experiences ive had... dont get me wrong, it needs some fixing, but the groundwork is all there, and with patches and a decent pc behind it, i think its definately the best overall multiplayer experience this year.

COD4, haven't had so much fun online in years. TF2 was great while it lasted, but it didn't last that long, so...
UT3 obviously has the potential to become best of all, but with all the bugs currently in place, and not much support from the modding community (in part because of the difficulty creating content for the UT3), it is currently not that great at all.

What makes UT3 so hard to make content for?
You could try Dystopia (hl2 mod), it's my current favourite, but not too many players nowadays. Still, give it a shot.

Well, maps are not that hard to make, but everything else seems to be nightmare.
Just check this out. A dude tries to make a XAN model for UT3, right? He had so many problems with the engine, he is considering abandoning all his work on it. I think it's a shame. |

TF2 was nice, but COD4 is absolutely the best!

Don't forget Enemy Territory: Quake Wars!! (If you remember Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, it's a lot like it, exp, upgrades within the server.. similar objectives, just a lot more polished and streamlined..).
Also Phluxed; you run Vista 64 bit right? I'm curious because of the amount of memory you have.

Were is COD4 in that ? If I look @ xfire statistics its second highest game on the list.

I'd be willing to bet that like crysis the server list isn't integrated yet, Crysis's was up earlier, but it went down again. (Putting it about tied with Quake wars, but it's at 500 now for some reason.)
Xfire probably isn't the best place to look for accurate statistics, it's sort of like a toolbar that tracks website traffic.
Anyway, in my opinion they would be ranked in this order for the moment.
1.)Team Fortress 2
2.)CoD4:MP
3.)Quake Wars
4.)Unreal 3
5.)Crysis
Fun fact: If you take the hours/day for World of Warcraft and divide by one day, then by a year you get 38 years/day. 38 years of life are spent everyday in World of Warcraft. lawler

i can only say that TF2 is not at all great... well, it might be great if it were 2003. the style of it is very cool but the game is a dumbed down version of ETF, and that is a shame because ETF rocked.

You forgot about Quake Wars <3
I would have said COD4 but the online isn't fun anymore. All it is anymore is a grenade whoring competition. When someone isn't lobbing 3 grenades at you they're shooting them at you with the launcher. And if you do happen to get a good kill, oh look at that, lets drop a grenade when ya die. There is no adrenaline or strategy anymore.
He who carries the most grenades wins the game.
