Okay so I took the 300gb hdd out of my xbox and fitted it as a slave to my other IDE drive. So I've now got one IDE on its own bus and the other 2 are on a bus set as master and slave.
I've also got 2 sata drives. All the drives are the same brand Maxtor. The three IDE's are the same model too as are the Sata's.
They find them in the Bios without problems as do they find them in the device manager. But on My Computer the recently fitted HDD won't show.
So I go to the Disk Management and it sees all the drives. But the new one isn't initialised. I've right clicked the drive in question and its not giving me the option to format it. I've tried to initialising it and I just get an error.
The O/S is Windows XP Sp2.
So where am I going wrong?
Another piece of advice I need, although I probably know what the answer is going to be. I've got 2 x 512Mb's of 400Mhz memory in the machine. Would it be okay to put a 1gb 400Mhz stick in there too. I know you shouldn't mix memory, but this is just a stopgap until I get my new machine.
What kind of error are you getting when trying to initialize that disk? What brand is it?
About memory... you should try and see if it works. If it works then good. If not well.........
Thats the error I'm getting:
In the event viewer its showing as a 800045 from the source LDM.
I think I'll get the memory.
That error number can mean anything really. Its an unspecified error.
Ok then i think you should do this. Unplug all of youre hdd-s and leave only the one you cant initialize. Then put windows install cd in drive and see if you can install windows on it. If you can then you should let the windows format it and when it starts to put windows files on disk turn youre pc off. Then plug all youre other disks back and start windows normal. Disk should work now. Now del. partition and format it and you are good to go. If windows install cant use disk then you should try putting in on other channel and change from slave to master or vice versa.
Nah that wouldn't work. What it was, was that the HDD was locked to the Xbox. I got a program to unlock it. All if fine now. Thanks for the help though.
