Dragon Age

  • Official web page: LINK
  • Publisher: Electronic Arts
  • Developer: Bioware
  • Genre: RPG
  • Release date: November 3, 2009
  • Story/Description:
    Quote:

    Dragon Age Box Art
Dragon Age: Origins is the spiritual successor to BioWare's critically acclaimed Baldur's Gate, featuring deep character customization and role-playing, morally challenging decisions, tactical party-based combat, and a wealth of gritty, mature sub-plots. It is a dark, heroic fantasy game that combines original storytelling techniques with classic role-playing challenges.

In Dragon Age, your choices change the world and affect the people around you. Certain situations, storylines, and conversation options will change drastically depending on your origin and your motivations. You choose your origin, and from that starting point, your story begins. You play through your character's early days, defining his or her background and motivation and begin to learn more about the world of Ferelden from your own distinct perspective. Your choice of origin defines how you will view the world and how it views you. Choose a sneaky, disrespected commoner and you will play a story that focuses around subtle skills and careful wordplay. Choose a noble origin and the world will be much more positive and helpful, but those jealous of your status will not be afraid to take what you have, violently if necessary

This has been the site for a few days. It's getting late!

Rumor has it that they are renaming the title to Dragon Age: Origins and G4 will have exclusive trailers or footage on Friday. Supposed to be a big deal at E3 as well.

Well hopefully it'll last longer than Mass Effect.

None of this, but it's a trilogy bullshit.

If it's going to be an RPG it should at least last me more than 16 fucking hours.

It's not a rumour, it has been renamed. Website has finally been updated Razz

Don't look like they use UE3 for this one, but a proprietary engine judging from the screenshots?

Trailer looks pre-rendered in comparison. Anyway, I am more concerned about player choices after playing Mass Effect - where the only real choice you have that affects the game is at the very end.

It's not surprising, Bioware left their roots behind a long time ago, though in their defence the newer games retain at least some of the essence of what made their earlier titles good. With Dragon Age they are letting PC users get it first and console users will be waiting the same way we had to for Mass Effect - although I doubt they will have to wait as long....

Having just watched the full trailer (which shows no gameplay footage) the LOTR whiff is stronger than ever. Seems like they are incapable of coming up with something that isn't derivative.

Here's hoping this is good!

The same generic 'epic' fantasy shit that we've been seeing since Lord of the Rings. What's the point in coming up with your own IP if you're just going to steal it from others? Are the licencing costs so bad? :-/

That second screen is a older image (I remember seeing it a while ago.) while the first screen is how it looks now. Smile
(Not counting any cinematic sequences such as those two trailers posted previously though those could also be pre-rendered.)

EDIT: Or perhaps the camera is simply very mobile/flexible as seen in these new screens.

Looks promising and I'm sure it will be 'good' at the very least, but here's hoping they can live up to Baldurs Gate standards and make something truly memorable. I would have preferred a highly detailed 2D enviroment but then, I'm a dreamer. C'mon be good.

Yeah this game is starting to look very interesting.
I thought it was awesome when the guy zoomed out and it look almost like baldur's gate 1 and 2 (but a lot better).

It kinda reminds me of the transition of diablo 2 > 3

I'm definitely gonna play it in that view just because I love baldur's gate 1 and 2 and the more a game looks like those games the better Razz

Didn't really like the style of NWN1 and 2 but this looks a lot better.

Can't wait to get my hands on this game.

New teaser up at the website: http://dragonage.bioware.com/

Looks MUCH better than the random shit they released earlier. Makes one wonder why they even put those up in the first place. Gameplay looks promising, and I do dig the promises of real mature themes... Let's see if Bioware can deliver.

(If they don't, it may well be another ten years 'till we see something in this niche...)

Fingers fucking crossed.

Wow, if somebody said that it was infact an MMO i wouldve believed them after watching the video. It looked like any other mmo, even the jerky movement (could be from crappy video), the interface to the combat. Maybe they were making an MMO but decided to convert it to SP? Actually kind of reminded me of AOC.

I think the jerky movement is more due to the engine running on a med-range card. The actual Baldurs Gate style combat (Pause and plan and also real time if you want) interests me, it could well be Bioware going back to their roots. If you notice most of the inside video runs reasonably well, its just the ones outside where it "struggles" and jerks.

I do like where the oil is set on fire by a fire spell... if stuff like that is in the combat then this will be the RPG we have been waiting a long time for.

Of course this game isn't out till early 2009 at the earliest, I'm sure there will be some monster cards that will be able to run it correctly.. Smile

As some of you said- i as well thought of the game as being a MMO. So i was not interested... but now, after watching all the E3 videos- niiiice. I only hope that it will be more combat oriented than Neverwinter nights 2.. which i never finished
