Official web page: LINK
Publisher: Electronic Arts Inc
Developer: EA Canada
Media type and size: DVD
Genre: Sport (Hockey) / 3D
Release date: 11-Sep-2007/US, 21-Sep-2007/UK/NORD.
Description:
Quote:

The revolutionary Skill Stick System evolves in NHL® 08 and delivers an unparalleled level of control. An all-new deking system enables you to move the puck off your stick, to walk around a defender and give you space in front to challenge the goalie. Enhanced analog speed control and a new skating engine give you the precision and fluidity to play like you would on the ice.

Showcasing true horsepower, On-The-Fly AI and playbook customization have added depth that will keep even the most experienced gamer transfixed. The intelligent CPU functionally coaches against you to counter your tendencies, and forces you to adjust your strategy. With Create-a-Play, you can hit the whiteboard and showcase your own strategic wisdom by customizing plays, recording them in practice mode and bringing them into game to outsmart your opponent. With unlimited control, unmatched depth and infinite possibilities, no game is ever the same with NHL 08.

Features:
Quote:

• Skill Stick Moments—The Skill Stick gave you the power to deke the goalie in NHL 07 –now you can own the 1-on-1 matchup and undress the opposing defenseman with complete control Tap the puck into space and between the defenders legs to walk around him. Once you’re all alone in front, improved stick handling and shooting accuracy will give you the toolset to beat your goaltender for that decisive goal.
• On the Fly AI—Dynamic AI adjusts to your every move both on offense and defense, promising to challenge even the most skilled hockey players. The intelligent CPU scouts your tendencies like a coach and makes the necessary adjustments to shut down your money plays, forcing you to adjust your style of play.
• Create Custom Plays—Take any team into practice mode and train them to run custom rush and in-zone plays in game. Do you want your team to run cycle plays down low? Or feed the point for a one-timer? Record the exact movements of each player in practice mode and watch as your AI executes them in gameplay.
• All-New Skating Engine—New analog speed control of the left stick gives you the variance you need to glide into the zone with control or get a burst of speed to step up on a defender. With new skating animations and responsiveness, you have the control to perform crossovers to maintain speed or carve tight turns for an immediate change in direction.
• All-New Interactive Creation Zone—Create lifelike, fully customizable characters, team uniforms, and authentic equipment that affect how players perform on the ice. Test out how the stick flex impacts shot speed and accuracy, or the skate rocker affects turning radius and speed.
• American Hockey League— 29 AHL teams – the top developmental league for the NHL – are exclusively featured and fully playable. Develop your talent with their AHL affiliate until you are ready to call them up for the show. Be the GM and manage your team from the ground up while staying under the salary cap.
• Goalie Mode—Take on the hardest job in sports and seize control of your goaltender with a new 3rd person camera. Stack the pads, butterfly and make glove saves with your entire team depending on you.

NHL 08

PC gets the NHL0X+1 version again.

Squirrely: Now come on y'all. We can't waste time arguing. There could still be survivors out there. We need to hunt them down, and kill them.
Beary: How about we kill them, and then rape their bodies so we can use their blood as lubricant.

It's true... consoles are where all sports games except GM sims are at their best... I pre-ordered NHL2k8 a couple days ago and it should be on my doorstep tomorrow or the following day. I predict it will be the best and most in depth hockey game that isn't Eastside Hockey Manager to date.

NHL08 after playing the demo is strange and uncomfortable to say the least.

On another note, bring on the season, the NHL IS BACK BABY.

GO LEAFS GO.

Looking forward to this. It's not gonna be as good as the console versions, not just graphics. But I'm hoping the stuff listed as feutures in the game is in the PC version for real, and not just on consoles...like goalie mode and stuff like that...some say it will be on the pc version, some say it isn't. Someone know for sure? There is next to nothing about the pc game anywhere that I can find.

But at the very least I hope they have fixed stuff from 07, it was much crappier than 06 imho. So I guess they do change and update stuff for the pc version, just not enough and not always to the better. Hoping it will be out today, but my guess is it'll come sometime tomorrow...

if they can make an NHL game that I can't win 10-2 at every 5 period games, I will be happy.

Those last year version was only fun with friend.. the AI was way to easy to beat. (even with tweaked hack)

On a sad note: Still the old gen engine.. argggg... Hope they support widescreen at last !

Sadly don't have much time so Online league always was a bit of a problem... Still looking forward the 08 game... 07 wasn't that bad, if the AI could make better offensive play and the goalie could actually stop a puck (there was like 20 to 30 "money" way to score.. Even with friends, game of 5m period always ended in the 2 digit score, but it was at least challenging.

I think NHL2K8 and NHL 08 are different my man. The dagger release is for NHL2K8 and not the EA game this template is referring to. Just letting you know.

That's funny because they said last year that this year would be "next gen". EA can go choke on a dick.

Laughing Yeah, but I knew that they would go and assfuck us again. I don't care all that much about the gfx, if the gameplay was the same, but I guess they can't just port over the gameplay mechanics somehow.

Actually I have a LITTLE faith in this years NHL (not fifa mind you) .. I heard from someone who tried it on GC and he said they really improved the gameplay like goalies and defense and there should be a skill stick on PC too.

Same crap every year from EA. The game just ends up being the previous years game with some new features added, some old features removed, updated rosters and new packaging.
