I have been told the following components are compatible yet I can't for the life of me get the machine to POST!
Motherboard
Abit IL9 Pro, i945P, S775, PCI-E (x16), DDR2 667, SATA II, ATX
CPU
Intel Core 2 Duo E6550, S775, 2.33 GHz, 1333MHz FSB, Conroe Core, 4MB Cache, Retail
After trying the board and CPU. I went out and acquired another of the same board and once again no POST! So then I assumed it was the CPU. I went out and got another CPU and once again no POST!
Ive also changed the memory and PCI Express video card since I know those are also requirements for the POST.
Im at a complete loss.
The only thing I have noticed which I cannot find much information on, is that on the CPU box it says "requires electrically compatibility board PCG06"
It was confirmed by the company who sold me the CPU and board in the first place that they are compatible yet I am finding it hard to believe that any of the motherboards and processors I have tried are faulty! The PCG06 notice is giving me thoughts that even though I have been told they should work together, the fact is they don't and that I need a PCG06 motherboard, whatever the hell that is!
Anyone got any information, advice or suggestions?

Yeah I agree with _SiN_ here, CPU is 1333MHz FSB and the motherboard doesn't support it. I do not know if this can be done or not, but I think the CPU should be able to boot downclocked.
However you could need a BIOS update for you motherboard to make it compatible with the CPU type.

Do you think either the CPU or motherboard would have been damaged?

Nah..No damage should have occurred. No smoke or burn smells, right?
Yeah - trash that mobo. Get the correct mobo for the E6550.
I just built my pc with the E6550 chip and paired it with an Abit P35 board for $70. Posted each and every time since.

I was told to get a board with the P35 chipset. :) |
yeah, p35 is best because it has support for the new 45nm CPUs that are coming out in november, so you it'll be easy to upgrade.
