big fucking monitor, thats what Very Happy

finally made my pick, and ordered my new screen which arrived this morning... weeee Very Happy

thats a 100% 1080p and 720p below it... just picked *something* to display on the screen, because i dont even have a wallpaper image for the desktop yet.

it does have a few problems, like having so much fucking space, each time i have to go from one side of the screen to the other (ie photoshop), its like a full on fucking journey... that, and ive lost all sense of size perspective...

but colours are amazing, resolution is massive... so pretty, it pretty much takes up my whole field of vision.

man, just got a huge shock... updated my nvidia drivers booted up windows again... suddenly noticed some slight banding on my wallpaper (thanx for the link btw mortibus) - i didnt remember seeing banding before... maybe its just how the image was made... loaded up photoshop... the photoshop logo came up, and it too had much more noticable banding...uh oh wtf?? created an image and put a gradient colour in it... whaaa MASSIVE BANDING!!!! not good not good not goooddddd... but then had a look at the nvidia settings.. pff... colour and quality set to medium... bah, fixed that and all is right again in the universe Very Happy

woot, i love resurrecting dead posts, especially when theyre mine.

discovered 3 things

1: i can play counter-strike source at full resolution (2560x1600) @ 60fps Very Happy
2: jericho demo crashes like a mad fuck when i try maxing out the resolution
3: my assumptions WERE right, even though the dell guy told me i was wrong... because this monitors resolution is so insanely fucking high, i CAN use half resolution (1280x800) instead of the full resolution, and still get a crisp picture, where as other lcd's dont have a half-resolution, so you have to game at max res if you want a good picture... and like hell most games will play nicely at 1920x1200 Sad

the down side to that being that of course each single pixel is now FOUR, but really... on a monitor this size, you really dont notice unless your face is right in the thing, and id rather have a crisp image and a good frame-rate, than a blurry mess... yeah this is a cool monitor. really happy with it.

as an illustrator, photoshop, after effects, indesign and flash user, i cant see the point in ONE big monitor...

dual monitors are the way forward, pallettes on the secondary, what im working on on the primary, then i can zoom infinitely in and my palletes will not obscure my view.

obviously id prefer one of those beasts as my primary, and then my 19" dual widescreens either side.

i think ive asked you this before, but what kind of design dyu do?

well nothing i would call professional, as in full-time... ive done logo designs mostly (2d), and some websites... photo restoration, hell even a few cd covers for amateur musicians... what i really want to do i get into 3d... ive taught myself a bit, but everything kinda went on hold when i went to university, though i plan to tackle 3d properly - looking at taking atleast 3 multimedia design papers next year hopefully.

as for the screen, i really wanted the best all-round screen i could find... for games, movies, and any design work, and this screen really fits the bill. i used to have 2 crt's, and i gotta say, for a screen THIS big, it really doesnt effect my photoshop work. in regards to using 2 screens, with tool windows on one screen, yeah thats how i had it set up when i was using 2 screens, but realistically... although i dont like doing it, but if i really didnt want them in the way, i could just minimise the photoshop window, so that i have space on the side for palletes.

but regardless, for all-round use, i think this is a damn fine monitor.
