You will take on the role of a Rogue Trader, a scion of an ancient dynasty of daring privateers, that reign over their own merchant empire and explore the fringes of Imperial space with the blessing of the Emperor Himself. Thanks to their Warrant of Trade - the Rogue Trader is endowed with privileges and power beyond imagination as well as the task of expanding the borders of the Imperium. At their disposal is a gargantuan voidship of immense power and innumerable servants and personnel ready to do the bidding of their lord. Their adventures begin in the vast Koronus Expanse - a treacherous region of unexplored space at the edge of Humanity’s domain.
Exploration will bring the protagonist to mysterious lost and forgotten worlds as well as numerous planets claimed by humanity - from lush Agri-Worlds to steel-clad Forge Worlds, all of them ready to be claimed for your burgeoning merchant empire or plundered for their riches. While traveling between the stars, get ready to come across potential allies and dangerous enemies of the Imperium, Chaos cults and alien Xenos counting among the most treacherous and deadly.
You will make fateful decisions that affect the lives of entire worlds. You will prove your strategic and tactical skills in high-impact turn-based battles against powerful opponents.
No Rogue Trader travels alone: on this dangerous journey into the unknown, you will meet faithful and sophisticated companions. Imagine fighting alongside a mighty power armoured Space Marine, a lethal Aeldari Ranger, or even a courageous Sister of Battle armed with bolter and ardent prayer - these characters and many others will join you.
This is great news, loved both Pathfinders.
Already went and preordered, lol...maybe I can trust this will be as good as their previous games.
Never actually cared about W40K that much, some of the games have been ok and the premise is interesting enough so we will see if this sparks more interest in the franchise for me.
I'm not too familiar with the Warhammer universe either but Owlcat are one of the very few companies around that still make genuinely competent cRPGs, so naturally I'm interested. Let's hope they deliver!
So what are Owlcat going to do now that they can't copy/paste the board game rules verbatim into their cRPG like they did with the Pathfinder games? They're going to have to...*gasp*...actually try to balance something and make a rewarding combat/role-play system.
I genuinely don't think they're up to the task - their production values are wonderful in terms of visuals and writing, their "systems" ability, not so much.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

Yeah love/hate Owlcat, the first 3 acts of Wrath of Righteous are probably best cRPG ever played level.. but it derails, and the game balance is massively overtuned for neckbeard min/maxing instead of fun or role playing. Same experience in Kingmaker.

they couldn't even balance their pathfinder games
but for some reason they ended up with the same sort of fans fromsoft gets, so complaints are met with git gud
It was only the last ~30 minutes of Kingmaker that were messed up for me. It's like the difficulty doubled, out of nowhere, and by the time I realised what I needed to have at that point (in terms of skills, gear & spells), it was too late. I turned the difficulty down a notch and was still able to finish the game.
Min/maxing does suck, and I'll never understand why certain games will spike like that towards the end. I love a challenge, but the way my party suddenly became so useless was just dumb.
To their defense, there is a fuck-tonne going on in the game, more so than almost every other game. Balancing it would be an absolute bitch. I don't think any game of its kind has been balanced to the point that everything feels fair, not for as long as I can remember

Single-player games don't have to be balanced. Let the min/maxers mult-iclass into gimped 6 class builds etc. give them the HardcoreSuperChallenge difficulty. I found "Core" difficulty great until mid-way into both campaigns where it gets stupid. lower difficulties are too easy as well. Can't win.

Now this is a punch in the gut. I dont even know what half the shit in the game even means so i pick whatever i think MIGHT be good, but never stuff i dont rightly understand. They could probably write a whole book to explain abilities and what they actually do.

Well... there is a core Pathfinder rulebook, you know.
I'm sticking to the tried and true "winging it" until i meet a wall and end up cussing it out for being a terrible game adaptation except for hardcore fans.
lametta --> Depending on the genre you're aiming at - Space Marine for some orkz-choppy action, or Dawn Of War for RTS (and DoW 2 for a bit more tactical approach).
Countless is almost like an understatement. Horus Heresy alone has 54 books...and it's still going And serves as a prequel to the actual 40k, so you have plenty to get into before the game releases
Signature/Avatar nuking: none (can be changed in your profile)
