Uhh... UK = NOT ALL OF EUROPE!!!!!
If you buy the Dutch version you will have the exact same thing. We in Holland always use the same version UK has. Some games (about 5% kids games ) have dutch only.

I can't say I'm that surprised... TV and litrature is different in the sense that it's entirely passive. With video games you take part in the action, so I guess the censor was considering this.
It dosn't help of course that American college studants are gettiing shot nearly every day.
Personnaly I couldn't care either way whether it gets banned or not. I

Rockstar responds:
"We are disappointed with the recent decision by the British Board of Film Classification to refuse classification of Manhunt 2. While we respect the authority of the classification board and will abide by the rules, we emphatically disagree with this particular decision."
"Manhunt 2 is an entertainment experience for fans of psychological thrillers and horror. The subject matter of this game is in line with other mainstream entertainment choices for adult consumers."
"We respect those who have different opinions about the horror genre and video games as a whole, but we hope they will also consider the opinions of the adult gamers for whom this product is intended. We believe all products should be rated to allow the public to make informed choices about the media and art they wish to consume. The stories in modern video games are as diverse as the stories in books, film and television. The adult consumers who would play this game fully understand that it is fictional interactive entertainment and nothing more."

No, Dutch versions aren't always the same as UK versions. Carmageddon is a good example.

now Law and Order for the PC has been removed from stores because of a image of murder victim James Bulger.
I guess it was right to remove Law and Order, how would you feel if you saw a image of your murdered child (think he was only a toddler) in a computer game without being told...

Whilst I agree that Manhunt2 is indeed in line with other mainstream entertainment choices for adult consumers, amongst the gaming industry, it is in a league of it's own. The idea behind the game is controversial and sadistic and the emphasis on the player's actions to progress within the game by using intended realistic brutality to murder is just morally wrong. The majority of games feature killing but the consistent encouragement to use such methods of extreme violence sets it apart from any other title in my opinion and it is for that reason that I can understand the BBFC's decision.

More bad news:
Quote: |
After news broke earlier on in the week that Manhunt 2 had been banned from release, both in the United Kingdom and Ireland, there was still hope that North American consumers would be able to get hold of the game. Now, however, that looks increasingly unlikely too. The ESRB issued an initial rating of AO (Adults Only) for Manhunt 2 in the USA on Tuesday.
Nintendo has made it clear that it will not go as far as to release such rated titles on its consoles:
“Games made for Nintendo systems enjoy a broad variety of styles, genres, and ratings,” a representative told GameSpot. “These are some of the reasons our Wii and Nintendo DS systems appeal to such a broad range of people. But as with books, television, and movies, different content is meant for different audiences. That’s why the ESRB provides ratings to help consumers understand the content of a game before they purchase it. As stated on Nintendo.com, Nintendo does not allow any AO-rated content on its systems.”
Just in case you were worried that Sony fans were not facing the same sort of treatment, it looks like the PS2 version of Manhunt 2 has run into the same problem in the US. Sony US spokesman Dave Karraker stated, “Currently it’s SCE’s policy not to allow the playback of AO rated content on our systems.”
In related news, Wedbush-Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has estimated that the planning of Manhunt 2 could hit the pockets of Take-Two massively. He writes:
I had estimated [Manhunt 2 would generate] around $25 million in revenues for this quarter, plus around $15 million in reorders. It’s not clear to me whether Take-Two will:
1) ship the game as is;
2) re-cut the game and try to have the UK ban/US AO rating lifted;
3) cancel the game.
It seems that since most of the cost is “sunk cost” [i.e., not recoverable], alternative 3 is unlikely. The trade-off between 1 and 2 is lower sales with option 1 and higher sales and higher costs (more development and some incremental marketing) for option 2. Without knowing what they plan, I’d say it probably costs around half of the potential revenues, but that’s just a guess.
Take-Two’s most readily available alternatives on both sides of the Atlantic are to appeal the ESRB’s AO rating and the BBFC’s decision, or to modify the game. However, with so much controversy surrounding the game already, it remains to be seen what decisions might be taken.

Fucking appeasers, self censor whores, double moralistic faggots.
Another Thrill Kill here....
Possibly it gets censored like The Punisher (it was too rated AO) and some geeks find a way to reverse this shit like in the xbox version. The black/white filters etc.
I think its time to move this Topic to World News

Perhaps you might wait until the game comes out, or for reviews of the game before you actually decide if this is right or wrong. Obviously some of the certification boards have looked at it and perhaps they just thought it was a crap game and purely a stunt to gain publicity by adding stupid shit that doesn't need to be in it.
Lots of game with violence and the like are released all the time, such as postal 2. Perhaps wait and see and maybe you might (although I doubt it going by this thread) think its a crappy game.
