yeah im shoving this in the OS section, because it is kinda OS related, not game specific...
is that pc vista 'LIVE' crap, something that we should worry about? i mean they are planning to make games for windows titles able to use the service... is it likely that though payed incentives from microsoft, we might see more and more games exclusively using this service, spelling the end for one of the most basic things thats so great about pc gaming - free internet multiplayer...
microsoft is trying to turn the pc into a console when it comes to games, which is actually starting to worry me... LIVE wouldnt be so bad, but you have to fucking PAY for it... PAY to play your PURCHASED games ONLINE! i mean for consoles it kinda makes sense, but not for the pc... never for the pc..
my concern is that microsoft is pushing to make LIVE the standard... which is just disgusting, i hope people refuse to stand for it on the pc... i hope my fears are completely unfounded, but a: its been concerning me for a while, and b: i think we all know microsoft, and this is just the kind of evil money-grabbing shit youd expect from them...

You only need to pay to play vs consoles. Pc to Pc is free.

you sure? because i thought a live subscription, is a life subscription, and you need to pay to use the service... if its true you only need to pay for pc to console, then no worries... id have no need to play against console gamers... i prefer a bit of a challenge.  thanx for the info.
edit: no, your right, silver membership is free, i just saw the gold membership prices... but i still gotta say, does anyone else expect that microsoft COULD be pushing for live to be the gaming standard? obviously theyve got the money/resources to make sure key developers use only teh live standard, if microsoft wishes it, and im worried that indeed microsoft might start then charging for ALL levels of service... a 'compulsory' MS steam for internet gaming, if you will... *shudders*

we all wish xboxlive gold was free but the idea of paying for internet play isnt exactly new, loads of mmo gamers etc have been paying for their online service for years... the worst offender tho has to be the x360's final fantasy which needed xboxlive gold sub and ff sub - daylight robbery for what was an old pc game anyway... anyway the live gold sub isnt a huge amount and if it ensures good servers for a long life then all to the good, i hated really getting into a pc game online only to find the servers get removed as soon as the game stops selling lots or the s/w house or publisher goes under (remembering eracer back along)
