That is just terrible. It doesn't surprise me that no one did anything to help. That is crowd behaviour for you.
Was the guy on drugs or something, it sounds like a brazen attack if it was so public. Most rape is ususally by people you know.

I totally agree that drugs shouldn't be used as an excuse to get away with crime.
It seemed like a bunch of implusive moves on his part. Stealing a car, almost hitting her or driving reckless, attacking her in public in front of witnesses. These aren' t the actions of a normal criminal. Rapists spend a lot of time planning the attack, they want total control during the attack. From tainteds story it doesn't seem like the guy was scared of getting caught.
We had a guy do something similar here. Only he was on crack and grabbed a 10 yr old (i think) He drove his van into her and knocked her off her bike. He grabbed her in front of friend in daylight. He raped her. And the courts pretty much excused his behaviour because he was on drugs. I think he got under 2 yrs, but I have to double check that. We have some really REALLY violent people here walking around free.
I am glad I am not a mom sometimes. I think I could kill someone if they hurt one of my kids. If I was the mom of tainted friend. I would fucking kill him. I would become pistol-the-sniper-shrimp.
My heart goes out to her and other victimes.

They haven't got any leads on him yet. BTW, I was wrong when I said he left her in a stolen car. She actually escaped when they stopped at a traffic light, she just jumped out of the car and started yelling for help. He just sped away.
So basically, they don't have a car to work with, and I bet no one caught the license plate. We'll see what the cops come up with. They're really after this guy since this is the 4th incident where he was involved in a kidnapping (the previous 3 he went for 12 year old girls and failed; they ran away), and this is the first successful time he raped someone.
If you ask me the cops are just fucking incompetent if this guy could get away with this shit 4 times. But hey, its a hard job, so I won't jump the gun and start criticizing him.
When they do catch him.... all I can say is I hope he lives nearby. He'll have a nice welcoming party for when he gets out of prison (not from me, but I'm not the only person pissed at him...)

But really, would you say that? Or just: "a man raped her".
I usually never hear "a white man raped her". Maybe in Police work.
Everyone got all upset over almost nothing.
