looked and didnt see any topics for the movie... too lazy to do a template... maybe tomorrow... if someone wants to do it for me, ill edit my post and slap ur template here...

just giving a heads up, dvdscr with 5.1 is out.. quality is really quite good, just skimmed through... occasionally the quality dips a little (but im pretty picky), and there is an occasional though not constant 'property of' down the bottom of the screen, which is barely noticable (very very faint). havent seen any b&w scenes... really really great release given that the film hasnt even gone wide yet.

for those that dont know, quickly, this is the new peter jackson film,fantasy/thriller, about a girl that was raped/murdered, and she watches the aftermath from the after-life

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0380510/

side-note

fuckin oscar season rocks, doesnt it? Very Happy BRING ON AVATAR, SHERLOCK HOLMES AND DR PARNASSUS,and ninja assassin... gawd i hope the studio was blindly hopeful enough to submit it hahaha) + whatever the fuck else im due Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Very ironic, coming from someone who argued that HD isn't always needed. What is the matter, Xvid blocking and smears prevented you from enjoying the dialogue and story? Laughing

Sorry to nitpick. <3

no interest in seeing the departed because ive allready seen the original, but are you not sure youre enjoyment of him in that film wasnt down to the depth of the story and how much you enjoyed the overall film?

and wahlberg didnt do a good job in 3 kings... the movie was alright, but you could have replaced him with anyone else and it would have been just as good or better. cant really remember basketball diaries too clearly (that was the dicaprio film wasnt it?), and havent seen boogie nights. but looking back on his entire career, to me, hes just not a great actor.. everything ive seen him in, hes never stood out, and ive never thought 'woah, marky fucking owned that film'...

well i saw it, and yeah.. not impressed, id give it a 6/10

its pretty obvious that this film was made because jackson loved the book and just wanted so badly to enjoy the experience of bringing it to film, and it shows... it wasnt made to be a box office hit. i admire him for choosing a project that JUST interested him, and making it just how he wanted - its refreshing change from all the homogenized crap that comes out these days... and shit, its not like jacksons got anything to prove anymore...

yeah, it just didnt appeal to me, not that im calling jackson out for it (especially after saying its fine for him to make a film for HIM not me). i felt it was quite slow and dry for the most part... i felt like the otherworldly scenes could have been much much more surreal.. thats the one part where i would have loved to have seen him abandon all restraint, and make it as colourful or as overly haunting as he could, instead of pulling back and opting for something more tame... the later part of the film picked up quite a bit, so i think id have enjoyed the film more if the first half had been tightened up a bit, and the afterlife stuff had been more vibrant (both the good and bad sides).

all in all, i definately dont regret seeing this, i enjoyed watching it for the most part, but its not the kind of film that id probably bother to watch again, nor would i recommend it to someone else.

two final things... anyone else think the cgi suffered a bit, seeing as cameron had pretty much sucked up all the talented weta people for avatar? a lot of the cgi looked below the quality id expected to be honest... or perhaps he knew it was never going to be a major box office film, and purposefully kept the budget down?

and that song that plays during the 'tree' bit towards the end... anyone else think the singer in that song sounded a HELL of a lot like the one in the closing song from gladiator? I CALL FOR AN INVESTIGATION! brb... Very Happy
